Hello all. I have started hearing a noise with my brakes. First thing in the morning when I back up and apply the brakes, I get a clunk or pop noise from the left front wheel. It will pop again once I move forward and hit the brakes. It only does the noise one time when I first apply the brakes in either direction. Once the brakes have been used out on the road and are warm, there is no noise when changing directions. I've had this noise in another car I used to have and it was caused by the aftermarket brake pads not being exactly large enough and there was slight pad shifting in the caliper. Being this is a new car and has the OEM pads, I would hope there would be no pad shifting or movment in the calipers. Has anyone else heard this noise in their Passat?

I get the same exact noise. Backing out of the driveway, popping noise from the left front when I hit the brake to stop. It's not just once though, meaning if I let of the brake and then hit it again it will make the pop again. I think it might be strut/suspension related, it only seems to do it with the wheel turned.

Strange. Mine never makes the sound again until I change direction. It also will not do it once the car has been driven any length of time. Does yours make the noise after it has been driven and the brakes are good and hot? I smell a TSB on this issue.

I'll have to take notice, but I believe it only does it just when it is cold like the first start of the day. I've only had the car for 6 weeks, and have just started to notice the noise the last week or so

Same here. I got mine at the end of March and just started hearing this last week. I only have 1300 miles.

It will do it anytime I reverse. I noticed today I just stopped at a quicky mart for 2 minutes, got back in and backed up, car fully warmed up.

Also when I got home, put it in reverse with the wheels straight and it still did it. Pressed the pedal 3 times and it made the noise. Pressed it 4,5,6 and no noise. Weird.

My gti did that once and it turned out to be loose caliper bolts. Not saying that may be the case on a brand new car.. but its worth taking a look.

My break noise seems to be getting more pronounced--and it only happens if the car is cold--has anyone taken their Passat in yet to check this out?

No not yet, I'm waiting until I take it in on the 90 day courtesy check.

Something odd to add to this. I heard my wifes 2012 Jetta make this exact same noise. Just like my Passat, no clicking after the brakes heat up.

My Passat is at the dealer now getting this checked out. Hopefully I'll report back with good news.

We're just getting an intermittent squeak, but no clunks or anything abrupt.

So, my problem was the squeak when reversing.
They couldn't replicate it and the service manager said that his Passat does the same thing. They say its a rust build up that occurs overnight. My plan is to bring it back one evening and let them keep it to experience in the morning. The problem happens like clockwork in the mornings, but happens throughout the day as well.

Just got it back.......tech noted front subframe not torqued properly from factory. Re-tourqued subframe mounting bolts.

Get to my house, put it in reverse, hit the brakes.....same popping noise is there LOL. Eh it's a lease so, not gonna worry about it. Leasing cars has really taken the frustration out of car ownership. U just say ehhh, it'll be gone in 3 years.

The same noise on my Passat was repared at the dealer, with only 30 km, when hit the brakes at reverse.

The dealer put some "glue" on the pad brake.
