Thread: Can anyone help me identify the source of squeeking sound (video inside)

  1. 05-08-2012 07:38 PM #1
    Hey guys,

Last week my 2011 GTI starting making the most unbearable squeeking sound anytime I drive on a bumpy or rough surface. As far as I can tell, it's coming from the interior and it's coming from the passenger seat. However, it's hard to identify the source while you are simultaneously driving.

Here is a link to a video so you can hear the noise I am talking about, it starts around 8 seconds in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpxT5...ature=youtu.be

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any thoughts as to what could be causing the noise? Thanks for any help.

Got it to work. Wow that is a squeak? Check out the hand break button. Pull up lightly on handbreak when it starts sqeaking to see if it goes away. Might be it.

The original link was bad, I updated it.

I'll give the hand brake thing a try

Check your sun visor clips man. I have a squeaky one in my car. That might be it.

I have a squeak that I thought was on the passenger side until I asked my wife to hunt around for it while we were driving and she said it sounded like it was coming from the diver's side. Turns out it is the sunglass holder area. If I touch that area it stops. Release it and it eventually returns. Doesn't matter if the holder is open or closed.

Your video sounds louder than mine, but give it a shot.

Okay I feel like an idiot. I folded the rear seat down but when I folded it back up, it didn't fully lock back into place. That's where the squeeking noise was coming from. It sounded like it was coming from the front so I didn't think to check back there. Thanks for the help guys.
