Has this motor been rebuilt? A rebuilt motor will have higher temps until the rings seat some and the bearings run in.

I have swapped an AEB engine (058 block) and 02J transmission in my 85 cabriolet! I'm just about done with this build but I'm getting Leary of the temp readings. The only temp gauge I have working is the original VDO oil temp gauge! This was the sending unit located at the side of the head on its original 1.8 (JH) engine! So I moved this unit from the original head location to the oil filter stand using all the original wiring! The gauge used to read around 110 deg C. It now reads about 140 -150 on the oil filter stand!
Now when I take a temp reading. ( with the infra red temp gun) it's 64 C at the head and 88 C on the sending unit attached to the oil stand! So there is obviously a difference in temp with the location change! Now I have tried splicing into the AEB blue square temp sensor the ecu uses! There is a blue/brown wire the was supposed to be the one to splice into! No luck. So I need to find some type of coupler I can screw the original 1.8 nail head sensor in to! This way I can get a temp reading on my original cluster! I know I saw someone posted a link to a source that sold these in an 1" coupler style??? But can't re find the thread. Back to the temps! The upper rad hose is 91 C the lower rad hose is 71 C and the heater blows hot air. So there should be no over heating going on right! I Leary cuz I don't want to burn up my brand new engine and I don't have a reliable coolant temp gauge working.
So can anyone confirm the these temps sound normal?? I haven't let the engine temp get higher than the stated temps above so I don't know if my fans are working or not?? I would love to hear some feed back! Or if anyone knows how I can attach my original temp gauge to my new system! Thanks

I have seen my motors change as much as 10-15*C. Don't know what that if in *F, as my temp gauges are in *C. I have seen another motor take 1-2 hrs of run time before temps came down closer to what the thermostat is rated at.
