Okay so i have a 2003 vw passat, and i plan on buying a new set of wheels tomorrow and just wanted to know a few things. The wheels i'm purchasing are 5x114.3 17x9 all around with an offset of +25mm. I would be purchasing 20mm adapters all around as well my big question is can it work? will it poke? and how much will it poke? thank you for any insight or advice you can give, pics of similar setups would be grateful as well

I believe you're going to poke like crazy with that setup. I'm running an 18x10 et45 with a 20mm spacer out back, and I poke a bit. You're going to be 20 more than that.

Yeah.... um... those are NOT going to work. Not at all. You will be effectivly running a 9" wide wheel with an ET of 5. Thats nuts.

To put it into perspective.... this is a 9.5" ET ~32 on my wagon:

You will poke 21mm more than me. Thats .08 inches

And that's just the rear.... on the front, you'll poke more than 26mm more than my 8.5 ET 25's - thats a FULL inch

Either redrill the wheels if you absolutly must have them (if they are redrillable that is), or find new wheels.

Note, even if you were to redrill, on the fronts, you would STILL poke 6mm more than me, and on the rear you would poke 1mm.... so even a redrill poses problems on the front.

what if he runs it with smaller adapters? i'm a complete noob in the wheel department haha so don't get all upset with me.
if you run an et of 25 and run like 15mm adapters, wouldnt it not poke, have 10mm clearence btw wheel and fender?

No worries. Yes, smaller adapters would make it a little better... but not really by much. Thinnest you can go is about 15mm (but I wouldn't trust them), and that doesn't help at all... reduces poke by 5mm...

Poke is really up to each person.... but it's in the range of huge fender damage if you bottom out at all... so yeah, I'd consider it in the 'don't touch' kinda way.

Thanks, it won't look like that this year... going to raise it and toss on my 17" Denvers for this year.... make it more usable as a wagon....

Thanks, I created it this morning after this thread was made

Figured we could put everything in one place. There is a similar thread in the Mk6 forums which is where I stole the idea from
