MKIV Jetta Wagon, about 500bhp and 27mpg.
Its powerband is laughable but fun.Especially since 3 of us carpool the 5 miles to work. One day on way home, 3 dudes in a wagon pulling on a spankin new S4.

my old xB was perfect as a DD. rated at 105/108 from the factory, i threw on an exhaust, intake, headers, springs, other useless crap, so it was probably 90-100 hp at the wheels and matching torque. completely enough for highway and daily commuting usage. sure, it would strain a little if you were climbing a really really steep hill or mountain, but that's a rare situation. MPGs were generally awesome at 30+. it could haul EVERYTHING. i basically fit my whole dorm/apt room into it when i moved around. i think 100/100 whp/tq is plenty for a practical DD.

I'd say 200hp is good enough for a DD. Lower weight is preferable.
But I guess it all depends on how far your commute is...mine is all of 1.5 miles before I'm dropped off. So really, on a nice day my old 5hp motorcycle would be fine on a nice day.

The RS is slow, the only saving grace to that car is how tossable it is. I also like the fact that it's my POS car, I dont care what happens to it and I drive it like that.
I stopped by the VW dealer yesterday, the Golf TDI is a decent looking car. I'd love it if I could put GTI bits into it though. I need to go for a test drive.

Wow, spare us a detailed examination of your colon polyps. Just get a doctor to take care of it, and ride a 50cc scooter to prove how you dont have a 'self esteem' issue.
Just because you have a boring drive doesn't mean all of us do.
I have more fun on my daily commute route around a mountain than I did while at an autocross.
