You need a new airbag that goes with the wheel, the stock JSW wheel's airbag won't fit, otherwise it is plug and play unless you have DSG and what a paddle wheel.

Actually... it was called the r20 before it's release...

    Quote from wiki
"There was much speculation about this vehicle, with uncertainly surrounding its name. Golf R20 was the most common name used prior to the Frankfurt Motor Show.[10] Once finally unveiled by Volkswagen at the Frankfurt IAA, on 15 September 2009, it was confirmed the R32 replacement would simply be called the Golf R."

Btw- apple genius told me today I should wait for the iphone5 to come out....

LOL @ thinking anything on wiki is factual. R20 was a name n00bs were calling the next gen R - VW never did.

Just be sure when you change the SW that you have the internal harness, some people sell it without the cable and its a pita to get. (word of advice)

Which VW is this wheel intended for? I like the relative absence of silver on it. Does the wheel have paddles?

This is the GLI/GTI steering Wheel with paddles for DSG/tiptronic.

There is a version with NO paddles but is otherwise identical.

This is the Round one that comes in the PAssat and the sportwagen it can come with and without paddles for DSG/tiptronic.

Ill post pics of the cables tomorrow

I'm gonna have to do this to my JSW too. I've been driving the R for the last month and went back to the wagon today. I missed the mileage, but the steering wheel just doesn't feel nearly as good.

Interested in where you ordered. I've seen them on ebay Germany and also from ECS (I believe) but none come with the airbag. Don't think they want to ship them as it is classified as hazmat and that creates all kinds of problems. Anyway, all seem pretty expensive. Wonder if you could order this through a VW dealer AND get the airbag too? Cheers

In Mexico you can get the GTI/GLI wheel with airbag and harness for around 440 and with paddles for DSG for like 40 extra, it only comes with silver parts not all black as the R wheel. Shipping is no problem if you disconnect and put it in transport mode, and also if you declare what it is, and sign a long form. (shipping goes up like 10%). I ordered mine and then ordered from Ebay.de the R logo and I changed the original GLI one for that one.... no problem. its a plug and play thing.
And yes even my wife loves the Sterring wheel and asked me if I could put one of those in her Mazda 5 :roll eyes: :face palm: ....
