I was inspired by seeing a 914 on Jalopnik's AOTD post this morning. What car(s) did you own that were slow as molasses but were a blast (or scary as s*** ) to drive fast?

My dad drove a 914 for a long while and it was a blast in the corners. Here it is many years ago:

monsterflow intake, roadstersport catback, direzzas, and a slick 6 speed. dear god it would get dusted by a minivan in a straight line, but through the corners, it was AMAZING.

    Regarding DD'ing a tuned Evo:

I believe my MR2 qualifies. It's the best handling car I've ever owned!

My Miata is stock and the 6-Speed is FAR from slick but it is so much fun to drive hard

I wanted to say my Volvo 240, as I love to drive it fast on B-roads, but it probably is too slow for this thread...

    My old 2.slow:

I drove this thing everywhere with the rev counter pegged to the max. It had a mild TT 160 cam. Considering all the abuse it took, this engine was rock solid and the current owner still drives it just fine..

I've always thought the shifter in the Miata was one of the best in the business. I like driving most slow cars with a stick fast. I think the only car I can think of that I drove with a stick that wasn't fun to drive fast was a late 90's carola.

With under 50hp the midget is seriously slow, however nothing is more fun at 35 mph. 50mph feels like 100+ in any other car. Lack of seatbelts, a spear like steering column 6 inches from your chest, no rollbar, weak brakes, and a body with the structural rigidity of a wet kleenex adds to the danger *cough* fun.

Is a e30 325e considered slow here? If so that absolutely.

Stock Civic with cheap aftermarket wheels

The Miata of course, but the Yaris isn't too bad either.

My current VW Polo. It weighs just shy of 800 kgs, and has a quite short gearing, so it zips around and is a blast to drive.

Definitely more about the handling than the speed with this turd. The A-Spec package is fanstastic.

OK, I'll take the bait. What are you used to driving? What would compel you to describe all of those reasonably quick cars as slow?

What are we doing here, should I just skip to page 8 and post a Lambo?

I don't think you know how to drive that thing. Not if you think your stang is fast and the rsx is slow. Just sayin.

well, if the RSX isn't a type S, I wouldn't describe it as fast or quick. But I guess I wouldn't describe it as slow either...

It's a matter of perspective really. Compared to the Mustang I usually drive, it's definitely lacking

new trans fluid - 1/2 redline mtl, 1/2 ford syncromesh fluid. make sure to change the fluid in the turret on top of the shifter (also - regrease the shifter bushing at the bottom of the linkage that floats in the turret).

made a world of difference in mine.

That's probably the nicest base RSX I've seen ever : )

I would say 160 hp in 2800 lbs. isn't fast, but not slow either except the auto trans on these cars suuuuucked.

Bingo. It shifts quickly for a tiptronic, but that's about the only praise I'll give it.

Is yours a 5-Speed or a 6-Speed. From what I've read the 5-speeds are very smooth but the 6-speeds are extremely vague. 5th is really easy to miss, and 6th is almost impossible to find unless you backhand the shifter and put it in that way

an rsx is by no means "slow" I guess you've never driven a car with a sub 2.0L 4cylinder. Mk4 & mk6 2.0 are pretty slow. As well as the old school 1.5L civic.

i've owned 4 miatas, an s2000, and a solstice gxp.

there is absolutely no way the solstice gxp or s2000 qualify as slow cars to drive fast. absolutely no way. any sub-3k car making more than 200hp doesn't count.
