I swear the 3.6 Turbo has the worst turbo lag of any car I've ever driven...I'd still love to own one

    drive the original turbo carrera.

it's absolutely dangerous how much lag there is, then at 3,000 everything changes.

You're correct about that one...I've driven one of those too, 4spd IIRC. At least the 3.6 can still be considered (modern) and that's what I was basing my opinion from

I drove a RUF BTR-2 that was a total lag monster. The part REALLY started when it was on boost, and it was a rather abrupt kick in the arse when the turbo woke up. I'd hate to come off boost and try to smoothly spool it and lay power down mid corner at the limit.

A friend of mine has one of these and I've driven it several times, honestly had no idea it was that fast. I'll make a mental note to floor it more next time I'm in the driver's seat.
He bought his circa 2001 with mileage in the 40K range. He's driven it probably 30K more since and it's still very pristine. While fun in its own way, I'm always struck by how primitive it feels compared to more modern stuff, but I can see why people lust after them. BTW, he does all his own work on it and it's been very reliable.

Very nice! I too still have this article. The Turbo 3.6 is still my favorite Porsche.

When this car came out, my family was friends with race car driver and entrepreneur, Jochen Rohr. Herr Rohr reportedly had the first or one of the first, Speed Yellow 3.6T 964's. I saw the car and wow. The car was ahead of it's time. 0-60 in 4 secs...in 1993!

I don't think this is a 3.6 but it shows how difficult these cars are to drive fast in stock form.

My favorite Porsche of all time. I remember reading about it in Sports Car International - same introduction in southern France, SCi had a maroon car. Such a gorgeous car!

    Porsche's have "nightmareish ergonomics?

I don't recall hearing/reading about ergonomics being an issue.

So true. I had a 1987 930 with some mods including a bigger snail. The lag was out right dangerous if the car is not pointed in a straight line. Mine hit at 4000rpms and it was literally violent.

Wasn't me. I know of at least one other Sepang Blue in town, it's got the titanium pack with the darker wheels. I guesstimate the three Houston dealers have sold a total of around 8-10 TT-RS's, I've seen a black and a Suzuka gray besides mine on the road.
