Doesn't matter. People who pick manuals usually want something more involved and fun. Not because of 0-60 times.

Was not expecting numbers like that when walking into this thread. Bravo Audi.

Vive la difference! I couldn't tell the new A6 from the facelifted A4 when I saw one in my rearview mirror.

The vehicle naming convention...sure. Didn't think there was that much fudging happening in terms of engine size tho.

Because of two things, lag and clutch slip.

When you floor it off the line even without LC, the DSG offers a little clutch slip off the line to help launch the car and spool the turbos.

The b8 s4 guys are getting only slightly slower times without lc. Shomegrown is correct.

Yep, last I check the quickest B8 S4 time was a 2010 DSG which doesn't even have launch control.

Impressive numbers, however with TT V8 this makes more than 420 hp. Also this thing is heavy.

Yup. The 3.2 in my A4 is actually a 3.1. Seriously

420hp? Riiiight. So this might actually be one of the most underrated Audi engines of all time going by these test stats. It's definitely putting down at least 420whp to move 4200lbs that quick.

Maybe. Probably. But having LC, DSG, and shorter lower gears make it possible

I honestly think Audi is just trolling at this point in terms of design.

This car is seriously quick though. The new 3.9TT is legit.

I don't know if a lack of a manual would bother me; it's a +4,200lb luxury car. A very fast luxury car, but a luxury car, nonetheless. What would bother me, in all honesty, is the prospect of its reliability (or its lack thereof) after the warranty is over. This isn't necessarily a concern for those who prefer to buy new cars every few years, but, for someone like myself, relative long-term reliability weighs heavily into the purchasing decision. I'm an old guy and have owned German cars most of my driving life, but not lately. Just can't get past the reliability aspect.

Very nice! I don't really care for 0-60 numbers, but it sounds quite fast!

Looking forward to seeing these on the road!

Only? For 420hp and 4200lbs, 115 is still a nice feat. For example, the C63 AMG, with less weight and apparently +60hp, traps 116 and was actually a tenth slower in the 1/4. Either way, the thing is seriously underrated and definitely does not lose "any steam". It may slow down after the short initial gearing, but it's still quick for it's alleged stats.

explain to me please what other MID size family sedan is trapping that much more?

I just proved to you guys that the beloved CTS-V is trapping near identical times (116) with more power.

    Where's the issue?

Holy ****ing fast... was not expecting that, launch control or not.

I wonder how this will compare to a (more expensive) 430hp, AWD, PDK Panamera GTS... (C/D has First Drive estimates, but not a full test yet).

BMW M5 traps 122 (you only said MID size...didn't mention price)

What's your issue with assuming that the CTS-V is what we all "fap" to? I think it's a kick ass ride, but it's not the be-all-end-all that YOU are making it out to be. If this weren't an audi being chastised here, would you be so bent out of shape?

Audi is one of my all time favorite on the shelf cars...Meaning I love them (S/RS versions especially) but I would never ever buy one. I simply find it too hard to get pass the type of $$$ they ask for them, kinda silly to me.

That's some pretty impressive figures for an S model and not an RS model

I can't imagine how many of these they'll sell over here, the streets are flooded with current and previous gen S4/S6's.

Not to bring hero runs into a conversation about one magazine review, but there are CTS-V's that have trapped 120, and a lot more in the 117-118 range. A 120 car will absolutely punish a 115 car.

Let's be realistic though, what % of buyers care about what their S6 traps? .001%? 99.99% of the buyers will be over 40 and just want a fun car to drive to work and back.

That's impressive... I'm not into bench racing numbers so I don't know them all off by heart.

Oh please, TCL loves the CTS-V... or anything LSx powered... it's the gold standard in here

It's a nice car don't get me wrong.. but as you can see the S6 is no slower then the CTS-V or E63

And you have it wrong, I'm not defending the Audi (it doesn't need defending as it's numbers IMO are right on point). I was just pointing out a typical TCL useless post when it's obviously wrong "only fast in first gear"

I would have done the same in any other thread

I'm very aware about what cars do if they trap higher then another.. I have plenty of 1/4 mile experience.

I compared the C&D numbers to C&D numbers.

Bench/magazine racing is questionable in the first place.

So then why bring it up as a point of contention? I didn't know it by heart either, that's why there's google.

pretty impressive numbers, however I'd imagine you can't do too many of those 5000 rpm launches before something goes:

The new M5 starts at $90k..the RS6 is the M5 competitor. The S-line of Audi has always sort of been an in-between the top range BMW and the M, sort of why BMW is coming out with the value M line. But based on this new S6, I'd imagine the RS version will more than holds its own against the new M5.

I highly doubt most owners would ever take this past 115mph, so even if it loses steam up top, it's still fast enough where it counts to destroy almost anything on the road

Yeah I know it was a little tongue in cheek.

I would definitely take this over the equivalent 5 series, fwiw (550i?)

It's a shame Audi is keeping away the best version and only giving us the sedan.

Also I wonder if this is the engine which will eventually go in the RS4/5.
