Number 4 bus, my friend. Or, do you prefer Sunset instead of Santa Monica? Number 2 is it.

Is bus 304 still around? 4 and 304 turn at the oil change triangle... 1, 2, and 3 keep going down Sunset.

I grew up in Los Feliz and grew up more in Downtown LA.

15 MPH? One could only wish for such speed.
Fortunately, I'm coming in the opposite direction in the morning.

Was in LA last week and we were stuck on the I5 north of San Diego for almost an hour without moving an inch, there seemed to be a checkpoint of some sorts near Camp Pendleton. My experience with the 405 has been good so far.

Is it just me or do people seem to freak out when going up the mountain toward Mulholland Drive and slow down?

More people commute to work via public transportation in LA than Chicago.

People laugh at me when I say I take the train from OC to LA and I LOVE IT.
You'd be shocked how many people do not know that LA has an underground subway...

Yeah they're mainly checking for illegals, especially in window-less vans, but usually they just let everyone drive through. Not sure how many places in the country have pictures of flying daughters...

Thanks. Can't wait to ride the LA buses again when the Gold Line hits Azusa in a couple of years (I live very close to Citrus College in Glendora).

That looks like Chinatown where the dragon gate thing is.

I was just joking as well, and he isn't in LA -- he renounced his metropolitan citizenship for some small, one-horse town in the sticks.

I wish we had a horse in the IE. There might be less smog.
Strangely enough I don't have traffic problems.

...yeah dude go for it! I remember the first time I saw it I thought it was an animated sign or something. The artist truly captured the essence of The Great Escape.

Not true. The check point he is talking about is agricultural check point... to make sure you are not smuggling fruits and vegetables from other States that might introduce parasites that will damage one of our biggest export industry.

There is no internal border control in the US. Once you are in, you are free to roam the country. It's one of our constitutional guarantees.

    eh, not exactly
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_...or_Checkpoints

We have a few fixed intererior checkpoints, usually within 100 miles of the border - from both Mexican and Canadian borders.

We have 2 near San Diego - San Clemente (I-5) and Temecula (I-15)

They are used as a deterrent (i.e. to give presence along the major thouroughfares) and as an opportunity for inspection-

    - scales - to monitor weight of commercial vehicles and ensure proper tariff/trailer fees
    - agricultural inspection - more to do with NAFTA than inter-state travel.
    - infrared/sonar - they have devices for scanning vehicles (see the vans with the radar-like equipment parked on either side of the checkpoint)

San Clemente is shared with CHP as a 2 in 1 checkpoint opportunity.

In addition we have "tactical checkpoints" which are more "mobile" in nature - such as along Highway 94 near the Tecate border crossing (Dulzura)

I'll also add that I carry a passport with me when travelling in the south SD county area because there are other "random mobile checkpoints" along some of the border front roads. (such as Monument Rd in the Tijuana River Estuary area)

Not unusual to see a Border Patrol checkpoint on 91south in Vermont, just after white river junction/89 south jump off. I've seen it mostly on holiday weekends/hot travel times. typically it's just roll up "you a us citizen?" "yup" "have a nice day"
