Whats up, so im picking up this TR 04 R32 tomorrow, hopefully and i have a question on the recall on the clearcoat. Do you think VW would still honor the recall or no? Is to late or no. Because im hearing mixed answers from different people that they would and would not. My buddy just went to vw to get a recall done on his 02 passat and it wasn't a problem. Let me know what you think.

Nope, just a lot of people that have had issues. Some have had luck with vw fixing problem areas, others none.

No I didn't buy because of hope of the recall, the respray I can do myself, but I must find the time to do it. But soon I will and have it looking good as new.

ahhh, but we'd need to have just as many silver or blue ones to show up (which I believe have no peeling) to use as concrete evidence that there's clearly an issue from the factory.

All that recall covered was them cutting the nipples off the drains. Grab a razor blade and do it yourself.

i had my ignition coil and all 6 coilpacks and the nipple on drain all honored by vw.
Only minor clear coat problems for me 2 small spots. nothing bigger than the size of a quarter.

could not be more false. If you had water damage to the carpet and/or headliner VW authorized the dealer to replace them both.

I show love, I was going to pick up a Bmp rather then the tr but then I could respray it without a problem. I live the bmp and the rs as well, but the tr stands out a lot. Especially today when we went for a cruise to sonic, the police right next to me was tailgating me as well as hitting me with ka.......them again it was 1am at night haha. :thumb up: for bmp

I forget the warranty period, I want to say 8 years on rust and paint. I think some people lucked out and got a clear coat respray under warranty. Unfortunately I think the re-spray wasn't any better than the original.

If you haven't, try searching official TR clear coat thread. Something like that. You might find better info there.
    Best of luck.

ALL MK4 Golf colors have this problem, but red seems to be the worst.
No recall, unless you have rust, even at 8 yrs, then you would have hope...

I have called and filed over a dozen complaints myself with this issue because I got so fed up with it. Even now as I'm doing a full color change its haunting me. Even after sanding it all out (the whole car) and feathering out where it was already peeling...I would mask those areas off to prime so it wouldn't ring out under new paint....I would unmask it and more clear would come off with the tape. 7/8 of my car has been resanded and primed to prevent any seperation under her new candy shell. Each time I called them I get the same response...they email me a surveywith multiple choice answers....I was mad because "kiss my ass" and "go f**k yourself" where not options on their survey.

Hmmm..... My headliner fabric is peeling off in the back from the headliner being flexed the 4 or 5 times the dealership tried to fix the drains under warranty. They also had a headliner on order for me that was on back-order so long I have no idea what happened to it. Would anybody care to take the bet Maroone VW would deny causing the issue?

If the sunroof drain recall is closed on your car, I'm thinking they wouldn't honor it at this point. Did they replace your carpet set by any chance?
