So, realistically, with your job and assumed trajectory through your life (i.e. how things look now), what is the one car/vehicle you have to own before you die? Sure, if I won some $200m lotto I'd buy everything (including Katy Perry), and so would everyone else, but let's pretend you're not going to pick the right numbers or inherit an oil field in your life. What would you buy that is attainable?

For me it is a '60s Corvette, anywhere from 1963-69, I love them. Ideally I'd like a '63 Z06 or a '67 L88, but midyears cost a nut and a leg anyway, and those two would be worth the wrath of the pharaohs. I love the early Mako Shark C3s as well, and a '69 would be key, since I'd get the actual slot fender vents and would get to skip a lot of the initial-build problems from 1968. In either case I'd try both a small and big block, something about a 427 makes me hot but I know a built small block can easily make too much power, and it'd preserve handling. A midyear I'd keep mint, but I could easily restomod a C3 as long as it was stealthy.

Are there 100 other cars I lust for? Sure. Will I ever get any of them if I can't even focus on just one? Nope So TCL, what is the one car you WILL get (not can, not if) in your life?

Well, mine is weird, and I'll be judged for it, but I want THIS Dasher. It's ugly, it's slow, it's old, it's a VW, and for some reason I absolutely adore it. I'd drop it a bit and slot in an AAZ code VW diesel. For some reason all I can think about right now is owning a Dasher with a fairly strong and extremely smoky diesel in it. This car:

dodge viper. 1st, 2nd or 5th gen, as long as its an RT/10. yes, i realize there's not a 5th gen viper without a roof, but i'm pretty sure i'm gonna have to have one at some point.

In 2015, the first R32 Nissan Skyline GT-Rs will be freely importable. No more paying quadruple the car's value to get it through customs and have US-spec safety/emissions equipment fitted - just sign some forms and pay some bonds.

You know, this actually might be a pretty good realistic goal for me. It'd probably end up being something of a restoration project, but I'm ready for that - I've torn S13s down to the frame before, and looked at RB26DETT wiring diagrams until my eyes crossed.

Some sort of Porsche, I almost don't care which one...anything from a base Boxster to a 911 GT3 RS. It was supposed to be my current car (instead of my S4), it should be my next car (but might not be because my practical side might win out again), but I will own one before I die.

I don't think I have a "got to have it" car. There's so many things that are cool, and the cars I end up buying, I initially think there's no way in hell I'd buy them for various reasons.

    OP, I like your style.

I'd go with what you're having, or one of these.

I love all cars, I just happen to own a few pieces of german crap at the moment.

E30 M3(stock or close to it),E36 M3(1995 Lightweight WITHOUT MODS),E46 M3 manual (No sunroof and cloth seats),Maybe an E90 M3 Coupe manual with the cool Carbon roof, but again without any options. I dont need that extra crap. Just one, oh sorry, then that would be a completely stock E30 M3 then for me if I can find one when I get around to buying it.

Anyone that has an E46 M3 6MT with no sunroof and cloth seats won't give it up. They are rare as hen's teeth and highly sought after.

Anyway, my pick would be any Porsche 911 Turbo.

+1, because i am 90% certain there will be a 911 sold throughout my lifetime and prices on older models will come down to affordable levels as my income increases. I will own one, one day.

993 turbo is my dream porsche.

I don't know if I must have it, but it would be my own pinnacle. Not interested in Euro exotics at all.

"What's that loud, boring sound you'll hear when I stop talking?"
    "It's an albino humping worm!"
"Why do they call it that?"
"Because it doesn't have any pigment."

For me it is a dually of some find. Not sure which model or generation yet, but a dually for sure.

A crew cab lowered would be hot, and moderetly usefull becouse of seating.

Or a regular cab version with more of a pro-street feel, and a modern engine for flexability.

As someone above said....308 GTS, I like that. Could get one for not too much, but the work on it would get pricey. It would be a fun car though. Love the look.

In reality though I would like to eventually own a 997 911(Turbo or GT3 variant) or a GT-R. Found myself spending a lot of time researching them both.

It's funny you both mentioned 997 GT3, because it's also one of the only cars that really does it for me. A lot of NSX owners seem to get into a GT3 as their next cars.
