Thread: Driving this morning and heard a pop

  1. 05-11-2012 09:06 AM #1
So I was driving on 495 in NoVA this morning and of course people want to do 40 in the fast lane...so I accelerated past them. As I was accelerating I heard a pop that sounded like I maybe hit the mirror of the car next to me but I knew I was too far away. Then I look at my boost gauge and Im sitting at zero. Check engine light came on shortly after that. I dont think its a blown turbo but any help/ideas on what it would be would help greatly.

I had that problem once before in my '99 Audi A4. I had just gotten it out of the shop and awhile I was driving away I heard a big pop. I pull over and found that one of the hoses wasn't tighten all the way down and it had come off!!! Thankfully that was the only one. I would check your hoses but also check to see why your getting a check engine light.

Unfortunately, requires engine pull to replace turbo.

Yes it's possible to do on your own.. But you will need an engine hoist and a lot of patience.

But how did you confirm it's your driver side turbo? Doesn't sound like the usual symptoms of a blown turbo...
