1996 A4 Trunk/License plate lights dont fit

I got a 96 A4 trunk from the yard, great condition but it was missing the handle (license plate lights and lock holder) to it. So I bought the handle and lights from the dealer.
I went to go put the lights in the handle and the screws do not line up. both holes on each light are off. Dealer wasnt much help but after paying 150 bucks for them I want it to fit properly
Any ideas or similar problems??

I have the correct light bar and lights available for 75 shipped. You need square lights not the half tear drop shaped ones. Hope that makes sense. Its a longer light bar and a rectangular light.
