EDIT (7/7/2012): Cleaned ISV with carb cleaner and it fixed the issue. Thanks to everyone that helped.

Just noticed this today... It wouldn't stall doing this, but sometimes when I do a cold start, it'll stall if I don't hold the RPM's at 1K for a few seconds. I don't know if that's related, though.

Anyways, even after warming it up, the idle will bog down to around 400RPM's real quickly then shoot back up to regular idle... and it will continue to do this. (That's me revving at 28seconds, not the car doing it)

    Any thoughts?

kinda sounds like a small vacuum leak.

Hmm... I should replace vacuum hoses anyways. I'll see if that fixes it.

Heh, have this same problem since yesterday....

Bought MAF cleaner, TB and ISV Cleaner today, and after dinner plan to make some clean up... Searched and googled and people say it may be Dirty TB, ISV, MAF or vac leak....

Mine is OBD 1 and i have CEL code "Adaptation at Limit" or something like that.

    Symptomes:

Very bad Cold start... might stall as well if i dont hold gas
Low RPM even when warmed up (400-500)
Shooting from muffler (i noticed that your shoots too) not sure if that's related but we run rich for some reason

Also suggest putting off "-" from the battery and let ECU Reset while u work on ur car....

Ill write up if i fix it today good luck

    EIDT:

I worked on my car without any success

Cleaned MAF, TB, ISV, Unplugged battery.... and does the same thing, nothing changed at all

And i still get this code :
    00533 - Idle Speed Regulation09-00 - Adaptation Limit Surpassed

I noticed this thing, When engine is cool (on cold start), when i rev it high it gets misfires and seems like it's running on wet spark plugs (very roughly) for 20 secs then gets better and finally stabilizes and never does this again if i rev after. I guess because it gets warm enough and doesnt do it again... I dont know what it is

Try plugging vag-com, maybe your problem is same too ?

just got mine up and running last week. so it hasnt been running long at this point but... obd1 vr same deal. after a min or two of idling it will bounce a few times... then she starts to miss. at this point i ve just shut it down and go on to other work. since the cooling system is not quite done i dont really want to run the engine too long a this point anyway. o2 sensor is not installed yet nor is the exhaust from the down-pipe back so who knows this could be part to blame?! keep us posted on your findings and i shall do the same.

    thanks all!
