This and also that it's not buried in sand with the debris still along side it. That pilot must have been in a world of hurt, surviving that crash then being stranded literally in the middle of nowhere.

The article said the pilot tried to start the engine. Not with the crankcase he didn't.

**edit, i can't find that article I'm mocking. Never mind.

wow this is like discovering dinosaur fossils awesome. I have not yet read the article but if the pilot survived this crash, his bones would not be too far from the crash site considering the environment.

Thye said the pilot survived the crash and was using his parachute for porotection from the sun. He died probably trying to walk out of that desert.

There's six machine guns in those wings. I'm sure you could find enough usable parts between them to make 2-3 working ones....

In****ingcredible. That region of the desert must not see much wind, otherwise all that stuff should be buried and/or scattered across the landscape. The fact that the pilot's parachute is still there is extremely eerie yet astounding. The tires on the landing gear are even still intact.

The only thing that would make the story more amazing is if they do succeed in recovering the pilot's remains. Talk about a needle in a haystack.

The P-40 had quite a few variants, and was used a lot by the Allied forces in North Africa and the Middle East. Though packing a supercharged Allison V-12, it was considered an inferior craft to the hot German planes of the time, which were packing dual-stage superchargers.

How come the engine looks taken apart? Also, Is that tire still inflated?

Some really weird things on this. Like, How come some things(like the front) are gone, but the bodywork around it are intact? Did it rust? What material would it be made of?

The tail surfaces are gone because they were made of canvas, which must've rotted away decades ago.

The front is gone because of the landing, I presume. When the prop hit the ground, it must've taken the reduction box with it.

I doubt the tire is still inflated. Probably has a stiff sidewall, so it looks inflated.

    I hope you're just trolling..

Anyways, judging by how the sand dunes shift all the time, I wouldn't be surprised if this thing was buried under the sand some time and only recently resurfaced to be discovered..

I'm not. This is the Car Lounge and it shouldn't be here. There are the appropriate Aviation forums and so the thread should be in there. You can't just post threads in the wrong place to get more hits.

And you shouldn't post responses bitchin' and whinin' about it just to get more hits. If ya want to be a party pooper just report it to a mod and see what they have to say about it. DUH.
