theres a reason why certain cars are disappearing from our roads. they break
#1
Got me to thinking the other day talking with a friend at work.
For example, we were talking about VW's and I mentioned how I'm seeing fewer and fewer clean examples of MkIII's on the road, let alone MkIII's in general. I live in the Pacific Northwest where these things used to be a dime a dozen. Of course, as a VW fan, I'm quick to spot a MkIII, or older Golfs, GTIs, Rabbits, etc. It's rare around here to see a clean GLX.
Obviously, the disposable appliances of yesteryear will fade away, but even enthusiasts brands begin to die of.
So, post em up what you're seeing less and less of.

When did you ever see those on the road to begin with? They were not that common.
I now consider myself lucky to see 92-00 Civics painted entirely the same color. And here in the northeast the mere sound of a classic 900 turbo used to be familiar... but they're virtually all gone.

I really liked them when I was younger and wasn't aware that they were huge POS, to me they were high end cars.
To me I would say that a lot of second hand cheaps cars from the 80s/90s started dissapearing completely from the roads, replaced by newest econoboxes.
I remember that quite a bunch of my friends were driving stripped Peugeots 205 or 309 as their first cars.
Pictures of 205s and 309s who probably went around the world 5 to 7 times, similar to what my friends were driving:

Just because I grew up with one, but never was old enough to drive. These are rare also, when I do see one I can't believe what I'm seeing.

Ditto for the svx, but i never thought of them as all too common to begin with. For the 'enthusiast' cars, i'm pretty shocked about the 2g eclipse gs-t and gsx, and its eagle contemporary. The base models are still around, but i rarely see the turbo models. These were certainly one of the fads of the time and they're not all that old, so i'm pretty shocked at this(maybe they still dot other areas more?). Did all the cranks go on strike?
Also in terms of the 'big four', mk IV supras and z32 TTs are much more common to my perception than fd rx7s and 3kgt/stealths.

These were everywhere 5-10 years ago. Now, you can still find them around, but Cash for Clunkers put a dent in their population. It makes me kind of sad, since I personally liked their styling.
On the other hand, I'm glad these pieces of junk are pretty much gone.
This generation of Cadillac DeVille ('85-'93) can also be seen from time to time, but nowhere near as often as five years ago.

For some strange reason, all the cool/popular cars from 2000 are no longer seen on the road as much in Vancouver.
Mainly Preludes, Integra's, Civic Si-R, IS300

10th gen Thunderbird (and Cougar twin).
These things used to be everywhere in this area.
And they are still something you see every day (which is surprising considering their age and miles).
But the numbers on the road have dropped way off in recent years.

used to get a ride to school in one of these every weekday. I can't recall the last time i saw one on the road.

The fastest to disappear seem to be those locally unpopular with individual owners, but popular with rental fleets. Presumably, they get shipped somewhere else to be auctioned off after rental service.
Meanwhile, the 1998-2002 Toyota Corolla, a rather mediocre, but reliable and durable, car, seems to be much more common than other cars of its age, including the once extremely common 1997-2001 Toyota Camry.

None of those were really "common" to begin with... it's not like when they first came out you were seeing them everywhere.
I would say the EJ8/EM1 civic. There are still quite a few EJ8s running around, but their numbers are dwindling.
And don't even get me started on EM1s.

Once police departments exhaust their stockpiles, the following are likely to disappear in a few years:
Although many reappear in taxi service:
Eventually, the taxis will get worn out and disappear.

I think clean 3rd gen GS-Rs are becoming rarer and rarer as well.

Maybe I'm biased but I remember seeing way more foxbody mustangs in the wild than I do now. It's like a once a week thing, if that.

As a college student who goes to a school with a large commuter population I still see plenty of old/odd cars everyday. Not so much anything of European manufacture but it seems like any domestic or mainstream Asian is fair game.

sure, it wasn't common you would see an R/T or ACR....but you don't see many 1st gen Neons around anymore. And as far as "they break".....5 years of autocrossing mine, only non regular wear item parts replaced were the head gasket and the front wheel bearings.
"You've seen it, you've heard it, and you're still asking questions?!?"
"Yeah, when do we go for a ride!?!?"
#32
I forgot about the Neon. Since they are worth so little these days, the head gasket and/or front wheel bearings basically "total" the car and send it off to the scrap yard.

I swear every Hummer H2 in the country disappeared about 4 or 5 years ago
