Thread: Opinions appreciated...new car thoughts

  1. 05-12-2012 11:47 AM #1
I am finally in a position to actually consider a new (to me) car and I thought i had decided that was the way I was going to go. But now I have been thinking...new car or new toy?

    The scenarios:

    Current ride:
    1999 Chrysler 300M
    98,000 miles
Recently sank (against my will) $3500 total (deer accident and this:

Purchased from a family friend with a full history
Other than maintenance absolutely zero problems

The Chrysler has been a great car to me and I have no regrets purchasing it but its not a car that I actually like.

    The plan:
Pay off small loan and save about $3000 (roughly one year)
Sell current car (KBB says private party is about $3000)
Borrow $5000-ish and purchase newer, more enjoyable car. Under 100K

    The toy:
With the same $3000, I can potentially finish this to a driver

This is a project that I have wanted to do for a long time but never had the chance (money) to actually finish the car.

So, TCL, what would you do?

Option A + sell the fiberglass tub and get something you can enjoy on a daily basis

I have more than the tub. We have a shortened frame, trans axle, front axle, alot of the big pieces to the puzzle...its alot of the little pieces that are needed. My father bought the first one about 20 years ago and we later came across the pictured body about 5 years ago with a frame in much better shape.

The buggy itself is a Kar Manufacturing Wild Cat, here is a completed one. It has been a bitch to try to find information about it. It would be cool to build it back up because it is from the region (Kar was based in Mass, I live in RI)
