Thread: Whats missing in my rear quarter panel??

  1. 05-12-2012 08:35 PM #1
OK, heres the deal. Bought a 99 B5 that was hit in the driver side rear quarter panel. Damage rear wheel back. I was wiring up the new tail light thinking all the wires went there but I have an extra connector and have no idea what might be missing that it plugs into. Looks like a twelve pin connector with about nine conductors. The car runs rough on idle which the previous owner said didnt happen until the crash and the computer throws misfire codes.

    Any help would be great.

    Thanks guys.

In the trunk on the drivers side, tucked into the quarter panel, usually behind the little door that holds the first-aid kit is a connector that has a harness leading up to the back of the radio. If your car has the trunk-mounted CD changer, this is where the changer gets plugged in. If your car has no CD changer, the harness and connector will still be there.

This harness will not effect how the car runs.

Under the car, buried in that area of the quarter panel is the EVAP system Leak Detection Pump. If those parts got damaged in the collision, you may have a vacuum leak. This could potentially cause the car to run rough.

Get the car scanned for trouble codes. Inspect the LDP and hoses for any damage.

How An Engine Works... Exhaust gases go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens, sign posts fly by at light speed, the girl in your passenger seat screams!
