Just looked it up. 10.1" (256mm) disc brake splash shield: 357-615-311-A
Trying to put mk3 knuckles and brakes on my mk2, and I need a little part number assistance.
So, here's my punishment for trying to use vagcat and ETKA by myself: I ordered a pair of brake splash shields a while back when I started planning for this project - now that I test fit the shields tonight (am planning to put this all together tomorrow! not happening now), I see I have ordered the wrong part. It does not even remotely fit the knuckle. (Although irrelevant, for the curious: I ordered 1J0615311A)
It's my own foolishness for not testing the fit until now, but maybe one of ya'll can help me. Any idea on what part numbers I actually need? TIA
Sad, lonely knuckles - save them!
On a showcar/weekend car no. On a daily/anycar that actually gets driven, absolutely.
Unless you like brake fade, and contaminated friction material.
Ever notice all the build-up on the back of OEM shields? They prevent that from reaching the friction surfaces. They prevent water from soaking the surface in wet conditions. They keep the snow that packs in your wheels from sitting against the surface, and keep it from icing over and locking up the wheels during cool down.
Try having aggressive pads, and no brake shields, in heavy rain. You won't have any braking power whatsoever.
