I have been reading up on this installation and I should be installing this tomorrow morning, quick question, when installing the cables to the map light, how do you feed the wires through the headliner. The diy says to pull it down but I couldnt find pics if its actually down alot or just enough to get the wire through. Does the headliner reattach if pulled down too far? This is the one part im not sure on for the installation so any insight or pics of the headliner moved for the wires, would be highly appreciated. Thank you so much

You don't have to pull down on the headliner much at all to feed the wires through. It's really easy. My only recommendation would be that, if you can, feed the wires from the map light area down to the mirror. It's easier than feeding the wires in the other direction.

That said, I wouldn't tap into any wires in the overhead console at all. I do not like tapping into stock wiring where I can avoid it, plus there's no good spot in that area to get a ground. I tried ti ground it where they suggested in the DIY you're probably using, and even dremeled down that screw head to get good metal on metal contact, and u still didn't get a good enough ground. The mirror appeared to work, but the homelink wouldn't program properly. I would suggest doing what I did, which would be ti route the wires to the fuse box, which is actually an easier install. See post 100 in my build thread and let me know if you have any other questions.

We did my install by tapping into the wires in the overhead, which as stated before wasn't the easiest thing to do. Then routed them down the A pillar and to the back (I installed a model with a 3.3" display in it for a camera). If you're just doing a normal EC mirror with homelink I'd take everyone else's advice and route it down to the fusebox.

I tapped into wires in the map light area.

I cut the harness off to the correct length and crimped connectors on like the kind on there originally, except I put a spade on the ground and crimped both power wires in a single spade. Two taps and done. Good connections, no problems.

Thanks for the help and suggestions, I ended up running it to the map lights because I am a nervous nelly and the more pieces I have to take off the 100% chance of me making an oops goes up by 10% . I think it came out looking good, and can post pics later. I wasnt able to get the the garage to pair, think it was the supers fault though (will fix this tonight) and I got my work gate to work this morning so it should be good to go . I ended up using a washer with the ground, I dont know if that helped but everything appears to be running good so I am hoping for the best Thanks again
