2009 Tig and motorcycle trailer

Hi,
Im thinking of trailing 2 bikes behind my Tig.
Both bikes dry weight is 820lbs.
I read that Tig can pull 2200lbs.
Plan is to pull bikes for 4000 miles both ways. flats, no hills...
What do you guys think?
Is that going to be too much for a Tig?
I have 43xxx miles on the clock.

No big deal. In the rest of the world the Tiguan is rated to tow 2000 kilograms, or 4850 pounds.

Here's a photo of VW testing before the facelifted Tiguan came out. I'll bet that trailer in the photos weighs a lot more than your bikes, and they certainly didn't limit their testing in Europe to flat roads.

Very important difference. The ECS unit is something you MUST have - it's not just an electrical 12v harness, it forms part of the engine management system and you need to reprogram your ECU to recognise it.
The e-trailer hitch is what I have. The e-trailer harness I don't think you need because your Tig has all the wiring in it already. You just need to hook it all up with the ECS part (it goes between the harness coming from the front of the car and the one that drops down into the beam behind your rear bumper.

I just completed my hitch installation this last weekend. That 1st link for the hitch is just right. I think getting the aftermarket 2" receiver hitch is the better way to go vs. the OEM 1.25" one. Just opens up more options for using the hitch.

For the wiring though, I think you want the OEM trailer installation kit. Keffer VW has it for the cheapest price I found at $276. Here is the link: http://keffervwparts.com/eCatalog/in...iteid%3D216177

The hitch is a piece of cake to install. Just trim the bumper with a razor blade along the perforation, and using the 4 supplied bolts and washers, bolt the hitch to the existing support bar and torque to 38 ft/lbs.

The install the wiring, you have to remove a few panels in the left rear cargo area, and bolt the module in place and connect the wiring. Then install the Y harness on the wiring under the dash next to the OBD2 port. Then take the grey clip out of the wiring harness next to the hitch and unplug it from bumper and plug into the supplied Polack connector. Then with VCDS go to CAN gateway and installation and install the 69 trailer module. Then recode to NA. That is it. Not difficult, just a little more involved than most.

You'll have no problem towing motorcycles. I have a 2012 and have towed three dirtbikes on a small trailer and two road bikes in a 12' enclosed trailer for several thousand miles. The enclosed trailer with the road bikes was probably right at the rated limit. We went throurgh a wind storm with 60 mph cross winds and there were no issues.
