Car in question of course is an 06 GLI with the integrated rear window antenna.

So after moving to NC and not being used to using the rear defroster, now it is not working. So i take apart the rear panels and On the passenger side, there is a wire coming from the window with the eye let connected to it. then from the car, there is a wire coming up that has a rectangle piece attached to and is not connected to anything. Here is what mine looks like to what I am missing. Maybe someone can help me out

Notice the black wire that leads to the rectangle piece on the left and the wire coming from the window to an eyelet. Neither of those wires are connected to anything and I have a feeling that is why my rear defroster is not working. So if you can shed some light onto what this may be, It will be sooo much appreciated!!! Maybe take your panel loose and take a picture and post it so I can see what it looks like on yours to see whats missing.

More than likely I'd guess that your window was replaced and the installer never put the connector back on OR it had the wrong one and they said eff it and couldn't connect it. But that wire coming off the window is def the defroster connector, and I'd assume that black thing is where it goes. You can see that they are not even close to being the same style so thats why I think it was replaced before. Check the DOT number on the glass and that will tell the tale of OEM or aftermarket...

Its been replaced before for sure through safelite auto glass. On the driver side, the window is connected to a control module and is wired up and everything. That's what i don't get. When i ordered the window, safelite took down all the info and asked me a bunch of questions so they get me the right window, never had any issues with them so i believe it is the right window... My car has also been in a rear ender accident so that's where Im wondering if the hooked everything back up. Can you or someone take the panel off and snap a picture? The panel pops off easily..

I work for Safelite as an installer but I've never done a MkV backglass so I don't know what is what under there. The defroster should connect like a male to female style, with the male being on the glass and the female being on the body. Which is what the black connection looks like...

Got this working, to anyone that has this issue, the wire that goes to the window is a ground and just needs to be grounded. As for the black connector piece, that is for the satellite radio (if equipped) which fits in the bracket above. Mine does not have satellite radio so it's left unconnected. Just a little update, thanks to all that have replied to help
