Thread: OEM Wheels

  1. 05-13-2012 10:36 PM #1
So, I was researching for some wheels, as I`m kinda new in the Volkswagen world, I would like some opinions in the best looking wheels, and as the title says I`m looking for an OEM look

    Thanks!

I already saw some wheels, and the ones I like the most are the Serron Wheels (from the Adidas and Autobahn Golf editions) and the Interlagos

Im not looking for big wheels, max size is 18, could even be 19, but not sure yet, and im not sure if the wheels fit, I do not know many about this...

    18 Talladegas :

My Beetle is a chick car and my wagon is a mom´s car. But I really don´t care about stereotypes.
"Your Golf Sportwagen is not a true MK VI, its only a Mk V with a bolted on Golf front and MK VI electronics"
At least I got IRS, proper gauges and interior and a decent Hood lift strut"

NO way, those are ugly and expensive. For OEM I'd have to say the Helios are the best looking wheels hands down. Heavy mutha's tho.

What do you want in a wheel?

Looks are a great entry point. Don't buy an ugly rim.

Dirty rims get ugly. So get something that's easy to clean.

Fit matters. Get something with the right offset. Don't let anything rub. Tires keep you alive. Wear a hole in the sidewall and you get a blowout. I'd keep the adapters and such to a minimum, too. More stuff to break and to add weight.

Durability. When it comes to wheels, you can be too thin. Expect potholes and other road hazards. Don't get super light track wheels and take them out on public roads unless you're prepared to have issues.

Performance. Here you have to look at the whole package. I mentioned too light, but there's also too heavy. Motor Trend's review of the 2009 JSW SEL (The 2.0T) criticized VW's choice of 18 inch Kharthoums because each rim/tire combo weighed in at 51 lbs. This is unsprung weight (usually good to minimize) and is a liability to acceleration and to braking.

I ended up with Goals, which seem to be a good combination of meeting the above concerns. They aren't as light as I would like, but they are a good value.

We picked up our S-model JSW yesterday! Crummy cell photo:

The dealer gave me a deal on these to go with to replace the steelies:

17s with ET43 I believe. Anyone know what they are?

Better photos when I get the wheels on.

IDK what they are but they are surely not ET43... more like 53 if anything... 51 ish or so.

I swear it was 45 or 43. From what I have been able to find, they look like Routan wheels.

If they are they won't fit my JSW anyway, as Routans have a 127mm bolt circle. If that's the case my dealer is a dumb-ass, because they have several sets mounted with 225/45/17 tires on em, which would look pretty stupid on a Routan. I'll find out this evening if they fit our new wagon.

Ahah, if they are from a Routan, then yes that is definitely possible as the Routan is a Chrysler

    They are not Routan.

They did have the right bolt circle and are ET43, 17 X 7, cast in Germany. They look good on the car. Photos coming.
