I love cars, but the problem is they are like schroedinger's hobby. They're always in a quantum superstate of being both awesome and a huge waste of time and money... until observation momentarily forces them into one state or another.

Youre not pulling furniture in the travel trailers you posted either. They are just little compromises so they can say they have an RV. We use trucks here in the US because we tend to haul REAL loads, from horse trailers that carry 4-6 horses to RVs that carry family, friends AND their toys (like ATVs and dirt bikes).

Here I am moving across the country almsot 5 years ago.
Here I am a few weeks later getting a Christmas tree for the apartment.
I can see how a pickup is useful but I don't need one and can get 99% of the work I need to get done with my car. I've rented a U-Haul a few times to move furniture. I'm not at the point of doing home renos yet but I can see myself getting a utility trailer that can hold a decent amount of supplies to tackle a decent job.
It's also great when you pull up somewhere to buy something like a coffee table or body panels for my car, and you see the look on thier face when you show them that things actually fit.![]()

That is absolutely true, but I do find it funny that every lawn care place around here has a Diesel 1-ton pickup to haul a 2000 lb. load.Yes, it pulls it just fine but damn, for the difference between a 1/2 ton and a Superduty you could sure buy a lot of gas.
Naturally it's because the owner wants a Superduty and can write it off as a business expense, but I still find it pretty amusing. If GM had actually built that 4.4 liter V8 diesel and put it in their 1/2 ton, that would be absolutely perfect for that job.![]()

In the case of the lawn and turf management place my buddy works for, they occasionally haul some pretty good sized trailers. When they order their trucks, they just buy them all in the 1 ton 4x4 stripped out work truck trim and don't have to worry about which crew manager can haul what equipment.

That's great, but all of them? The difference in a basic work truck and a diesel work truck is not a small sum of money. I'm quite confident that not all of them need it, convenient to the job or not. I don't know the last time I saw a truck hauling a lousy 2000 lb trailer that wasn't a 3/4 or 1 ton.![]()

Hatchbacks are pretty cool. But they will never be a substitute for a truck as many of you have tricked yourselves into believing.

I thought I could use a station wagon to do side jobs (plumbing) out of...
I used either of the ones in the picture. It was do-able, but it wasn't comfortable at all. Everything had to be packed in "just right", and if I had to haul garbage, or large scrap from a job, it usually meant a couple trips.
Bought this and haven't looked back:
It can comfortably haul all my tools, parts, and anything I think I should bring "just in case", burns regular gas, and I can find parts for it anywhere.

I prefer the hatchback. Everything pictured here fit inside the front and rear trunks.![]()

the point is, my tiny brained friend, your life is not mine, so quit foisting your needs upon everyone else saying if you can do it, every one can do it. It's a flacy, as many peopel in this country DO need the larger rigs, so no, your goddamn hatchback wil lnot suffice for everyone. I HAVE a hatchback, and I still need a large truck.

What's the difference between people that carry bushes around and those that don't? Those that carry bushes don't look down on you for not carrying them around.

Law school sucks.
Good luck with the Bar Exam; what a waste of time and money that is...

Ford built a proper "heavy duty" F150 with the 8200lb GVWR package, perfect for those guys who need something a little beefier than a 1/2 ton yet don't need a full 3/4 or 1 ton. It's the only proper heavy duty 1/2 ton on the marketr though and it comes with the EcoBoost which is as close to a light duty diesel as you're going to get.
I pull 7000lbs around 8000km's a year with my F150/EcoBoost and i have to say its a great match.
