Hello, first time in the 16v forum...I've gone through the FAQ and have searched and haven't seen a whole lot that matches my situation.

I've recently bought a 88 Scirocco with a 2.0L transplant. It is running software from 034 Motorsport installed by previous owner. All in all it seems to run fine. It has a BBM fuel rail/injectors/and adjustable FPR. A/C and EGR has been removed. It has a cold air intake as well.

My car does not like to start when the engine is cold. I can hear a fairly loud buzzing noise from the pump when i turn the key to "On" position. It will crank quite a bit before it finally turns over. The idle might stumble a little bit at first, but after this point, the car runs fine. If I turn it off and try to start it again within a few hours, it will start right up with no problems or extra cranking. So warm starts are fine.

I have found a couple vacuum leaks and plugged/fixed them, however idle is still a little high (around 1100 RPM). Adjusting the idle to a lower number only results in car dying when shifting gears.

Today I'm going to check spark plugs and for signs of a leaky injector. I will also check for more vacuum leaks. Any feedback on my particular problem would be greatly appreciated.

Here's a couple of pictures of things that may or may not be related to this problem, but wanted to see what vortexers thought....

First this is the power cable coming off of the alternator, looks a lil' crispy, feels crispy too---bad ground somewhere? It is a "streetwire" usually for car stereo, looks like a 0 or 2 gauge...Don't know whats going on here...

And this is a vacuum line coming from the back of the TB. I followed the tube and it goes into the firewall on the passenger side with a bunch of other wires. When I pinch the tube, the idle actually stabilizes, otherwise the car idle bounces slowly up or down 100 rpm. Doesn't look to be stock setup, thoughts on this??
