Thread: I cannot release the parking brake handle! (96 jetta)

  1. 05-14-2012 02:27 PM #1
My sister parked my 96 jetta in the garage and pulled the parking brake level up. Now the parking brake handle is stuck. I cannot release the parking brake lever and therefore I cannot move my car. Any advice? Thanks.

Pull it up as far as you can and click the button in....

Thanks for quick reply. I tried before that it did not work. I cannot pull it up any further and pressing the button does not do anything.

Have your sister do it for you, sounds to me like she just pulled it to hard and your not strong enough to put it back down. Oh, and this is the mk4 forum.

I had a couple mk3's and it's a pretty typical problem. I think there's a couple threads on solutions. I had to deal with that myself, but its been a while and I can't remember the specifics. Good luck.
