sorry about your situation. Hope you didn't get hurt.

If it's any consolation, and you didn't give specific details, but I think it's impressive how your GLI took on a truck like that.

In any case, I wish you the best with this.

Man, that's horrible, you hurt at all? Evil trailers indeed. I have always imagined my death involving those things.

On a positive note,... At least it knocked out you're amber side marker...

LOL! Thanks, I'm fine. Fortunately (depending on how you look at it) he wasn't going that fast and I was stopped because I saw he was cutting the corner and started honking the horn for him to stop. I tried to throw it in reverse, but it was too late...

SMH at the truck driver. Good to see you're able to laugh about it now though . I figured you were fine given that you're posting about it on here (unless you were on your laptop in the hospital room, which was unlikely).

Any damage assessment from the insurance yet?

I can definitely empathize with you on this one. I had suspension work done on my previous car for 3 days before I was hit by a 19 year old causing $13,000 worth of damage.

The Good: You're ok and that's all that truly matters.
The Bad: Personally I feel a car is just never the same after these things.

    1. Need backstory, I cannot piece together what happened here. Just looks so odd.
    2. Trucking company insurance will pay out.
    3. Injury
    4. Profit?

I'm not a sue happy person but when it involved companies with irresponsible drivers who are not cautious or courteous with their loads then they should pay a little bit. Not millions, but it's only fair due to their negligence of hiring incompetent people.

What an *******. I hate trucks... the run over everything on city streets, and they throw rocks and chip paint and windshields on the highway like it's their job. Sorry about your GLI. This is what makes me scared of buying a new one.

We should get rid of semi's and replace them all with trains (like VW currently does with the Passat's shipment). Then companies can use the littler Sprinter trucks to move cargo around within cities. Those trucks are better for the environment and are far more maneuverable than an 18-wheeler (aka--no busted GLI).

Thanks everyone. It will get repaired, but I know that it will never be the same. I'm just concerned that the repairs get done 100% factory and 100% done right.

Go to a dealer and NOWHERE ELSE for repair.

NOBODY can do it like a REAL VW TECH.

It would be OE parts anyway. Nobody makes aftermarket parts for these cars yet. And at least at the dealer I work at our parts dept price matches any aftermarket part on an estimate so we only use vw parts even if the car is 10 years old.

Tell that to the rattles that are still in my doors and in the rear deck after 3 trips to a "REAL VW TECH"

They actually may be gone now after the accident!

... And once you get it back from your repair at a "REAL VW TECH", you will have your rattles back, just like a REAL VW!

So, the body shop is trying to order my bumper and has had 3 different ones sent to him, all of which don't fit properly. When I called the parts dept at my local dealer he said there were 5 different bumpers for the MKVI GLI!!! What the heck is the difference?!? I cant find one...

    what???

    Glad you are OK.

No matter how the fixing happens, you need to sell/trade that car. Also need to sue the truck driver, the company he works for and the insurance company.

Any chance you want to sell me your entire lower grille section? The two pieces that go around the fogs and the lower grille...

PM if you can have them removed and part them out. Thanks.
