Thread: help! blew engine after oil pan blew

  1. 05-14-2012 08:30 PM #1
Just like the title says i blew a hole in my jettas oil pan... my mechanic replaces it and adds oil then tries to start car and won't turn over even after few attempts. he found medal shavings in the old oil pan and did a camera check off the timing chain and found more metal pieces. he says he could start replacing parts but it would be easier/cheaper to find a new motor. anyone have the similar scenario? or what could be my options.... i would like to put a 1.8t or vr6 in but i don't know what else id have to do and make it work without engine light being on..thanks for the help

Getting a different engine is the right call.

With metal shavings all over you would be looking at a complete rebuild, and for an engine that in that shape the cost would be in the thousands.

Even if you were able to completely rebuild the engine yourself, and had access to a machine shop the cost of parts would would far exceed what you can find a used engine for.

So how long did you run the motor after the you gouged a hole in the pan?
