Had to sell my 20th last June due to being laid off but now Im in the market for a new car. Wanted to get your guys opinion on this. Only thing that scares me is the high miles. Other than that the car looks to be in excellent shape and well taken care of. I havent seen it in person yet though.

All the right Mods and IMO that car is track worthy. With all those goodies that car is worth more than the asking price. That's my opinion! My car has almost 140,000 miles, when something breaks we fix it. Usually upgrade the busted part. DON't be afraid of the miles. It uses a Timing Chain, not a belt.

If you like the car just make him an offer, even at that price you coming out ahead. Good find

Interior pics were noticeably absent from his Picasa album. Ask for detailed pics of the interior.

I sold my lightly modded, 73K miles, incredibly clean inside & out, OEM+ R32 for just $1k more than his asking price.
Mods, unless they're extravagant, don't drive the price of used cars. the car itself does. Don't be dazzled by his list of mods, instead, you should focus on the car itself because you can dress a pig up with lipstick, but it's still a pig.

They're worth plenty of money, but the way he displays what he paid for everything suggests that he is pricing the car based on what he spent on it over the past eight years, and not on what it is really worth.
At the end of the day, it's still an eight-year-old car with over 150k miles on it. A nicely modified car, but still eight-years-old with over 150k miles.

I'm just saying don't be blinded by the bling.
The OP should look at the entire package and make an offer.

If it was my car I wouldn't take anything less than $12,000. What could provide so much driving pleasure for less? I'd keep that car and watch her collect dust before selling for less than $12,000. The one in plano, tx. wasn't this nice and it sold in a week.

IMO, when they're in no rush to sell, you've got a better chance of striking gold.

no one does all that work to a car they hate

the owner is a smart man cause he bought an R32, people don't seek out and spend the cash to buy an R32 unless they have SOME idea of what it is. The people who confuse the R32 for a GOLF or GTI would NEVER cough up the dough for such a car. Much less spend the cash out of pocket for all those parts.

If the OP wants a stock R32, THIS AIN"T IT. If the OP has an idea of what MODs he wants, THIS MAY NOT BE THE CAR. If the OP wants a car with fresh maintenance parts and tasteful mods, THIS IS THE CAR. You want a daily driver that can hit the track or the drag strip, THIS IS IT. This car has tons, TONS of goodies. AND THEM GOODIES ARE ALL INSTALLED. Installed by someone who knows a little bout cars cause they searched for a rare car then paid the added cost then purchased the correct equipment to make it better.

If this car is up your alley I say pay a little for the parts and pay a little for the labor. My shop charges $85 per hour, that car has many hours of work on it. Car is worth $10,000 naked? Pay $1,000 for the parts and pay $1,000 for the labor. The labor of installing them parts and keeping the vehicle in great condition. Besides, you got like $3,000 in wheels and tires right there.

By the time you finish reading this that car will probably be sold. WHY, because the enthusiast that drive the VW R32 understand what has been invested in that HIGH mileage car. Again, my car is pushing 140,000 and we just drove 1,000 miles to WITW with 3 guys and a dog and all our gear. We drove the hell outta that car with 3 guys in it all weekend. Brakes never faded and the engine temp never got hot. I also did about 20 passed down the drag strip 1 month prior to WITW. How many 100,000 mile cars can do 20 passes with 5,000 rpm launches at the strip then a 4 day weekend at the DRAGON. I'm on original timing chains, original CV joints and Original engine and tranny. Got a different clutch though.

Want an car with great equipment and mods? Pull the trigger.
Want a close to stock R that you can build a certain way? Get the check book out cause it'll cost your more.

Not mad, just saying. People don't do this kind of work to abused cars, sorry. The car and the equipment tells me that the current owner has an IDEA of how to service and keep a nice car. If you gotta post a thread about this car looking for opinions then I think you may wanna do a little more homework, OP. You gonna miss a sweet deal by over thinking your purchase. Find a car and pay a price you can afford. If you hate the car simply put her up for sale. You'd probably make money instead of losing money this way.

    Worth $14,000, yes.
    Better deal at $13,000, sure.
Smart buy at $12,000, of course it is.
Anything less then $12,000 is a steal, I'd tell ya to geaux fly a kite. Buy a GTI for $8,000, bra.

Yes I agree. I doubt hell take anything less then 12k but it's worth a shot. I not to long ago picke up my r for 10k with 91k miles. Sometimes I'm in denile when I'm driving it and I look at the cluster and see 91k. I don't believe thy it has that many miles and still pulled like a champ. When it comes to German car especially VW's milelage should be the last thing that is to worry about. An from looking at the mods, he's thinking smart because he didn't put anything bs in there. Especially since its a clean car, also tells you that the driver is anal about maintaining it.
Do what you think is best.

Just bought a local BMP R with under 130k on it for $10,000 in the Portland OR area...I'd talk him down some. But worth the money either way with the mods...just sayin. You can go either way on this one...Kinda high miles...but it's a VW. If the car looks clean...and he has service records...it's worth the price. IF he has no records, I woudl question it. It's not a clear cut and dry answer...but hope it helps.

Some good stuff here. I like getting eveyones 2 cents and seeing each side of the coin sort of speak. I was never thinking the price was high or trying to insinuate that the seller was asking a ludacris price. Maybe I should of titled my post "Is this a fair price" or "How much do you think this is worth".

They seller is actually the 3rd owner and bought it when it had 130k on it and has all service records sinced he's owned it. Im not sure if he has any prior records. I would guess yes cause who buys an R and doesnt keep that stuff

The car has a bunch of stuff already done to it that I would do myself plus some cool ass shi! like the E85 kit, launch control, camber arms etc

Im going to look at it this Sunday. If all goes well and everything checks out okay I will most likely pull the trigger. Think I might offer $13k. He can keep the Aristos and Ill take the Neuspeeds. Since he's actually asking $15k w both sets of wheels. Not sure if he's firm on asking price but we can negotiate.

I've owned a 20th. It had some really nice mods but now I think Im ready for an upgrade

    I appreciate everyones feedback.

love mine too, gonna be my daily for a long time. It parks easy and I straight rape traffic in this thing. I fly under the radar in this silver 8 year old GOLF. Torque is great for snapping on unsuspecting traffic hogs. Blind spots are minimal. Best visibility of any car I've driven. I'm telling you, I'm hard pressed to find a better daily driver.

And, I don't think it will EVER die unless the Vortex Classifies go offline.

    congrats!

Put the word out, we need to do a TEXAS size R32 meet and greet.
Thinking about sand volleyball and bar-b-q this weekend. Also watching the NBA finals right now. Either a GTG for hard park'n or maybe a small cruise. A few of us enjoy drag racing in the DFW. Even if you don't wanna drag the car we could all meet at the drag strip to put names with faces. Also, if you don't drag race but wanna ride along you can jump in my car for a pass or two. I think I can run 9.1's with a passenger in the 1/8. Not fast but very fun.
