Well, it has been 15 years... Maybe society has somewhat normalized at this point? Maybe fear of the militias has stamped out most of the shenanigans?

While not as gritty as The Walking Dead there are three major differences.

    1) The Walking Dead takes place immediately after the walkers appear while Revolution takes place 15 years after the blackout. What is left of society has had time to stabilize somewhat and start making communities, carving out a life, etc. It's clear in the pilot that militias are policing the areas and keeping "the peace".
    2) There is no gritty, undead army to fear. Just organized militias and the occasional grifter.
    3) The Walking Dead is on cable...

And only has 10-12 episodes to make along with what I'm assuming is a bigger budget.

Im not sure the militia keeping the piece argument holds water, considering they were attacked in the first episode by three maniacs when they were sleeping on the plane. THAT was realistic.

But in Chicago, Uncle Matt was running a bar and hotel, so clearly there are areas that are relevantly "safe" and under (someone's) control and authority. I guess outside those areas, it's dangerous, more lawless, etc. Makes sense.

All that being said, I haven't watched ep 2 yet, maybe tonight.

I never watched Supernatural, so I don't know what Kripke's style is like... but Revolution sure likes to have those last second OMG moments before they cut to credits - just like in Lost and Fringe.

I'm not sure how I feel about this show, but it's still holding my interest because I want to find out what happened.

Watched EP3 last night. I was a little bored at parts, but it could have been because I was sleepy.

I'm a little worried because I think I might be losing interest. Just seems like the acting isn't all there, and some of the effects are subpar (which is to be expected). The plot is the only thing keeping me going. I was hoping this would be more like The Walking Dead. I know it's not fair to compare the two. It just seems like in TWD that the overall tone is "darker" and that they're "grinding it out" which is the way I would expect a post-apocalyptic world to be.

Whatever, I just need to turn my brain off next episode and enjoy it for what it is.

Yeah, I'm totally unimpressed with her as well, but I read an interview with the producers somewhere where they were talking about how they think they've found the next big star in her. I'm not seeing it.

I'm just having a hard time getting into this show... none of the characters are compelling enough for me to care about.

I've officially gotten rid of this on my TiVo. Just too much cheese, predictable, slow-paced, annoying characters and actors. I couldn't take it anymore. Thanks but no thanks, JJ Abrams and Jon Favreau.

P.S. It makes me so sad there will never be another LOST.

P.P.S. Good luck with this series.

This is the problem I'm having.

If it was based on a book or something, I'd just grab that so I could find out what the story is about. That's all I'm interested in at this point.

I agree. I really dislike the main character - especially when she asked her uncle not to kill that bounty hunter. And like I said before, I think they are trying to appease the female and teenage audience too much. The brother too, I don't really care if he dies.

I found myself browsing apps on my phone during most of the last epsisode. The best parts of this show take place in flashbacks IMHO. They have what could be a very interesting premise, they've devised interesting plots and sub plots... but the managed to screw up the feel of the show, the dialogue, and the casting soooo much... that Im really not sure I care enough about the story to keep watching.

Like others, I am interested in the background story... I just hope this show doesn't pull an Alcatraz and get cancelled without telling me just WTF is going on.

The most frustrating part is this premiss of the show has/had so much potential but I feel as though they watered it down to appeal to the widest possible audience.

The main character is a whiny little bitch that should have taken the fall for her pops. Other than that it is holding my interest.

I dislike this show but at the same time I cannot stop watching because I want to know what happened. I know, I am crazy.

Also, Charlotte said something with a Canadian accent. Sure enough, she is from Canada. Cookie for me

Yeah me too. I was ready to stop watching it after 45 minutes into episode 4, but then it showed how the mom was taken into the custody of MM, presumably because her brother-in-law asked for her. Now, I'm interested again.

But, yeah the 2 main characters ruin the show for me. The girl does not act like she has grown up in a hardened, post apocalyptic world. OTOH, her uncle seems to be too hard, or at least not genuinely hard IMO. I hate to be a broken record, but Rick Grimes in TWD represents a hardened good guy character, although this may change with newer episodes. He is extremely believable IMO.

I know nothing about television/movie salaries. Anyone know how much the Revolution cast is making? Or is that something that is determined after the show has been out a season?

Good points. There are scenes that happen and I keep thinking to myself what would they do on The Walking Dead?

I have no idea what their salaries are either.

Salaries are determined once everyone's signed, but it's nothing extraordinary. I'd guesstimate the cast is making $30-100k and episode, depending on the usual factors. I think $30k an ep is scale nowadays for a prime-time show, and I don't think anyone on the show is a big enough name to rate more than $100k an ep, hence the range.

If the show becomes a hit in the ratings, next season is when people would start looking for more money based on who's proving most popular.

I'm sure some of these folks are making much more then scale but here's the minimums...

"Basic Codified Agreement" SAG Agreement for a full budget feature film:

    Principal Performer Rates
    Per Day: $655
Per Week: $2,272 (how this translates to a per-episode number depends on the show)
    Background Actors (Extras)
    Per Day: $115
    Residuals for theatrical films:
    Television/Cable: 3.6% of distributor's gross receipts
Video/Discs: 4.5% of first million sold, 5.4% thereafter
    Some known actors' pay...
    http://gawker.com/5611209/how-much-d...stars-get-paid

Compare the lower-level numbers to folks on this show and my guess is no one on Revolution is doing better than $15k an ep, with Billy Burke probably getting a bit higher than that due to his experience.

I'm sure they all have escalators in their contracts though for when they get picked up for a full season, or a second season.

i know JJ abrams didn't create this but it's got the same friggin formula.
    mystery, stranded/no technology, opposing sides
    more mystery
    more questions than answers

i made a huge mistake watching this series. but now that i did i can't stop watching.

    damn you jj abrams!

Supernatural does like its moments of significance at the end, though not always "OMG" moments.

It's not as bad as something like (unrelated show) Revenge is for that anyway.

I think that was pretty rare, there are long running stories in Supernatural but mostly if falls into a "monster of the week" pattern.

Will continue to watch, it may eventually end up somewhere interesting. Fortunately there is one solid actor, Giancarlo Esposito, good chops and plays the badass well.
