      Different car.
Front doors are shared and pretty much all the interior pieces from the B pillar forward are shared, some minor differences due to spec differences. The Caprice floor pan is longer naturally but other then that the basic structure is the same.
Fwiw the front clip can be swapped over without major hacking, iirc it's all bolt off bolt on.

the lines appear to be the same as the cup car... I am going to guess the actual car is going to look very close to this one.

I hope so. It looks like it'd fit nicely alongside the GTO and G8. It may perform very well, and maybe even have a very nice interior, but it should look like it was made to serve the meaty part of this decade, not the previous decade.

That looks nice. This is going to be a good looking car, and based on how GM has been performing lately, the car itself (performance, refinement, etc) is going to match the looks. Fingers crossed that it sells well.

A new, rear-drive, Chevy sedan. I think NASCAR isn't a bad place to start marketing it.

It looks like it's going to look good regardless. Will this also replace the ho-hum Caprice PPV when it comes out?

It takes the best of the Malibu's nutty styling cues, and cleans them up nicely!

The Caprice has a longer wheelbase to fit the cage/etc... but I wouldn't be surprised if the SS's front and rear ends move over... it would make sense, especially for the "street appearance" Caprices which right now make no sense (what is the point of a civilian looking Caprice when there is no civilian version available for purchase).

Doubt it. I was thinking the same thing. But I'm pretty sure the Camaro is big enough that a 2 door SS would kind of be stepping on Camaro territory. I was thinking they could make a sort of new age Monte Carlo SS with this, but I doubt its going to be enough of a size difference from the Camaro to make it a plausible option.

'cause normal people can't tell the difference between the Caprice/Impala/Malibu?

With the next Camaro moving to the smaller Alpha platform, there could be room for a larger RWD V8 coupe.

I'd be stunned if it happened though. In the age of baby seats big coupes sell like coldcakes.

So are they supposed to be pulling the curtain back on this in LA or Detroit?

Agreed. I dont think it would sell very well.

Perhaps they could badge it as a Buick and revive the Riviera, but that would make me too happy to actually happen.

Wait... did we cover this already?

      http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2...-platform.html

It would be most awesome. New T-type/GN/GNX, new Riviera, new Monte... and bankruptcy all over again.

I'm thinking something a bit bigger than something ATS-derived (which is on the Alpha platform IIRC), with a V8 rather than a turbo 6. More of a powerful cruiser than a sports coup.

But yeah, I don't think either presents a great business case right now.
