Thread: Clear fluid leaking inside car

  1. 05-16-2012 11:43 PM #1
I have a clear oily fluid leaking inside my Jetta. It's dripping down from right above the gas pedal. It's clear, has no odor. Anyone know what this is?

What about coolant? I know if the heater core leaks, then it leaks inside the cabin, but I don't know from where it leaks out of. Inside the dash makes sense since that's where the air box is.

    Just my theory.
We need a series like this state-side. I'm in if there is one, or will be one. VW Cup 2013, anyone?

When the heatercores in my Jetta and Golf blew open, the leak was right at my gas pedal, so I would guess that it's the heatercore.

Check the coolant bubble and see if the coolant level is down.

You can also check the brake reservoir to see if the master cylinder is leaking, but a leaking master cylinder usually drips into the vacuum booster and fills it first (and you notice a problem with the brakes).

I'm thinking coolant too since the location along the firewall where the send & return coolant hoses feed the heater core is pretty much in alignment with the gas pedal.

    Taste it...

...if it's sweet, it's coolant, if you die, it's brake fluid.
