Has anyone ever successfully installed one of the RNS-315 nav systems in the new 2012 Jetta SE? If so, I would love to hear some advice. My dealership has had my car for 48 hours now, and can't figure out how to correctly program the thing to work with my car. Everything I have read suggests this is mostly a plug-and-play device, minus the installation of the new antenna. Can anyone give me some advice?

I hope someone can help you, and also hope the dealership doesn't screw up your car. My dealership installed a replacement AC head unit and needed to program it to the car and ended up bricking my cars computer because they didn't know what they were doing. Had a loaner for 2 and a half days while VW shipped out a new computer. They didn't know how to program that either and had to be walked through it over the phone.

I am hoping that too. I don't trust this dealership at all, and after this is done, I am never going back.
The funny thing is, they have been in daily contact with VW to try to fix this issue, but no body knows what to do. Why is this so hard? The stereo was made for VW cars, it shouldn't be this tough.

lol...this is like super easy...what part is not working the nav part or what? I can help you if you give me more information.

It was a nightmare for me too, but once they installed a new computer I haven't had a problem since. I had weird glitches beforehand where my fuel gauge would read 7/8ths full after each fill-up. Also, my speedometer would glitch out and drop to zero in the middle of the freeway and instantly shoot back to normal, sometimes making a long tone after doing so. I haven't had a single glitch since the new computer... *Knock on wood*
lol when they told me the computer was bricked I felt like driving my car through the dealership's window and saying SCREW this car! and walking off... haha..
The loaner was a Jetta S too! so fricken slow, felt like it was going to die going from 3rd to 4th gear

I have a 2011 Jetta TDI that came with the 510 non-nav radio, but it had bluetooth phone etc. I just pulled out the 510 and pushed in the RNS-315 and put the nav antenna just above the radio under the dash. I turned on the power, set the security code and bam it was working. Now I did notice a weird fault code that poped up but it never caused any problems what so ever...I use my 315 daily and love it, I think the dealership over worked your install and now your car is busted. I did hear that some long codes cant be changed at all and the main VW database will always show your car having a non-nav radio long coded?
Good luck

^^the fault is because your nav isnt coded probably.

You need to disconnect the compass module and the GPS antenna will send the signal to the cluster. It's easy to code it. Search for vag com locator on google. Find someone in your area who knows what they're doing and have them code it. It should only take a few minutes at most. My wife has a 2011 JSW TDI that I put an RNS-315 in. I can copy the coding and send it to you. It should be the same unless you have the MDI cable. She doesn't have it, but has 9W7 bluetooth.

^^ our cars are completely different than the sportwagon...We dont have a full MFD display therefore no compass installed. Only the gli has that.

Does your car have the Fender system?
If so, check to make sure your RNS-315 unit ends with a "B".
If you have the Fender and don't have a "B" RNS-315 unit, that may be your problem. The Fender system requires the "B" unit to work together.

FINALLY got my car back. Question now: are the left/right controls on the steering wheel supposed to control the Bluetooth with this stereo? It worked with my RCD-510, but not with this new RNS-315. Should I take it back and have them fix it or is this how it's supposed to be? Thanks!

Does it control other things like station Change currently?

Depends on the radio. Some support Bluetooth audio controls some don't. All newer units do.

My wheel controls work as follows:
Left control up/down is volume
Left control left/right is radio station up/down or CD track etc
Left control center ends a phone call
Left control bottom starts a phone call
Right control up/down changes MFD selection
Right control left/right does nothing
Right control center nothing so far
This was my 1000th post on the vortex...

If anyone has a new RNS-315, could you please post the software and hardware versions? I believe this has the old software.
