I'm doing the manual swap to my 96 jetta, the donor was odbI and mine is odbII so I'm trying to also update the electrical to stay odbII.. So far I've got everything installed nuts and bolts wise and now I'm down to the electrical.. I deleted the tcm harness and want to make it as close to factory as possible using the existing front end harness (not the engine or head light harness) I can post some pics if need be but I really just need to know what to hook to where on the remaining connegtions to get the thing starting and drivable.
Again I would have just jumped the wires on the tcm harness but didn't want them installed in the car (saw no seed for keeping them) also there are a few relays and small connections that are wither called out in the bently as "optional equipment" and no listing of what goes where and why.... andy comments on that would be helpfull as well...
I'm really just trying to avoid buying the harness from allgermanautowreckers if I can do it all without.
1. where do I jump the connections if nolonger have the tcm harness installed
2. anyclue on how to identify the "optional equipment" cercits
3. 020 5 pin pn/ back up light connections to the relay/fuse panel or just where they need to route to on fuse box or related circuits.
I can take some pics if needed thanks for all the help and not just telling me to buy a donor or the harness! Cheers!!
Hey, you don't need to do much. Assuming that you already read the sticky on how to do the conversion....I did a swap the other way around. OBD2 donor, obd1 swap.
"1. where do I jump the connections if nolonger have the tcm harness installed"
No need to do any jumpint at the TCM connector. But you need to do some jumping in a connection that has 6 pins that used to go to the auto tranny. I believe is 1-3, and 2-6. Check the sticky. And i've read that some people actually jank the wires our off the car.
"2. anyclue on how to identify the "optional equipment" cercits"
No clue, I did not have to mess with any other circuit.
"3. 020 5 pin pn/ back up light connections to the relay/fuse panel or just where they need to route to on fuse box or related circuits."
For this one, you need to buy a relay and do some wiring. "http://www.brokevw.com/reverseswitch.html"
No need to change ECM. The check engine will come up but you can delete it with a vagcom by resetting the ecm from auto to manual.
