Turned all the settings to what I'd use in FM4, simulation steering, lines off, manual with clutch, etc... but it still felt a lot different than what I was expecting. I think it was really geared more towards bros, hence the stupid watch on the drivers lift arm and the "music". Also, I think you get points for smashing stuff. Really? Not sure if I'll buy it, I like the concept, but the execution.... I won't buy it on release day like I did with FM3 and FM4.

spent about an hour with it last night. I'm finding it hard to like.. just too 'dirt' for me. the cameras, menus, narrator, etc were driving me crazy.
also, there's nfw my stock lancer on street tires can hold that line at 100mph.

I'm very surprised that there is no photo mode, at least in the demo. I'm also a little bummed that all of the roads are basically fenced in just beyond the edges of the road. What good is all that open space if you can't drive on it?

I don't feel that Dumbstep music and Dirt menu. Other than that this should be really great open road racing game.![]()

D/L'd and played the demo for about an hour last night.
* Physics don't feel as good as FM4 to me. More HP and custom suspension setup might help. Couldn't hardly get the Lancer to slide, with all assists off. Mustang was much better. Will rent to be sure.
* Graphics are GORGEOUS.
* Music blows major chunks, but I always turn that off anyways.
* Demos should show a glimpse of all aspects of the game. No idea how you go about buying, tuning, painting. Not in the demo.
* Really not feeling the sound on the Lancer. Mustang was better. Renting to be sure.
I'll rent this some weekend and give it a proper shakedown, but so far it's a "wait and buy after it gets cheap" title for me.

I was under the impression you couldn't customize the suspension... Just add aftermarket parts and such...

Ya its not the best physics or anything close to forza 4 but I'm keeping my reservation for the lce. I enjoy it. Could it be a bit more realistic? Sure but atleast its not like burnout or ridge racer.

I was able to pull off a 40k plus drift in the viper while
Fooling around on one of the roads you are not supposed to be on
I'm not really a drifter. But I can also get the Evo loose and slide with out the e brake. And the mustang slides all over the place.
I'm sure more power is gonna help.
This game is gonna be a blast. Yes the music sucks but I'm glad you can turn it off easily unlike the forza 4 demo

Being part of the Forza franchise, why in the world would they go with this?
Sure, some new players might not get it at first, as is always the case...
But they can just add parts and not tune. Tuning should always be available for those who want to.
Interesting to see if you're right.

To those that think this will play like the FM series : Yougottabekiddingme, seriously? Give you head a shake.
I think it's awesome - perfect blend of Dirt/TDU/Forza and even Burnout...Graphics are great, arcade handling, sweet car list, great visuals...the perfect game to have fun with. This isn't a SIM, this is an arcade/open world racer with the FM assets to help pay for the development of the series haha...100% purchase

The biggest detractor for me, aside from every car seemingly being equipped with racing slicks, is the "fenced-in" aspect. Why have a free roam, open environment game if you're just going to confine the action to the roads.

It's a videogame, I want to do things that I could never do in real life, while at the same time enjoying realistic physics and environments. In Grand Theft Auto 3, I spent more time humping around the mountains and trying to do impossible hill-climbs than I did probably anywhere else after beating the main story. In TDU, I love going through the back country and exploring off the beaten path, making the cars do things they should never be doing.
Without this true free-roam aspect, Horizon is nothing more than a collection of point-to-point races like Need for Speed or even Forza itself; certainly nothing ground-breaking.

I'm sure it will be a fun game and lots of people will play tons of hours on it. Those are the people that should get their moneys worth Dlc and all. I know I'd play it for a month or two and it get tossed aside. For me id be spending a lot of money for little return.
Where titles like gt2/3 and forza, I play for years on end. Until the next one comes out. I get my moneys worth with those titles. The 4000 cr dlc right out of the gate. Made me really look deep on if I want to get involved because I will buy the extras. Couldn't justify it. I know my market. I like car games where the cars are the star. There will be plenty that will be perfect fit for this game.

I agree about the fenced in roads being a bummer. I was trying to explore some areas to see if I could find a "barn find" or something, but so few buildings were accesible that it was just discouraging. It felt like I would just have to grind along the fence to find the breakable parts that might lead me to a possible barn find.
Never did find one, by the way.
#201
Right before the finish of the viper race on the left there is a gravel road that leads to the bottom of the dam. About halfway down is a barn that looks like it could hold a find. Do a rivals race and explore that section. I bet that is a barn spot
#202
As stated "on the fence". The Demo didnt really impress me other than the graphics. If we can tune like forza4 I MIGHT buy it. Right now it's looking like a rent only.

2..slow, I bet you are right. I saw some other barns that look similar to that one, but they didn't have any open doors on them. I would imagine that most people will shoot straight over to that spot when they get the game for their first barn find.![]()

I'm sure I'm going to get slammed for saying this, but the game felt like Burnout Paradise with better physics to me. Nothing really original to be had here. The fact that I couldn't feel the road through the controller vibrations (especially when going off road) was annoying too. Guess my racing title money will be going to F1 2012 this year.
#205
Burnout Paradise was better so far as the environment and "free-roam" aspects go. If you could take Burnout Paradise and simply replace the cars and physics, it'd be a great game. Greater still if you took TDU2 and replaced the cars and physics there with Horizon's.
Really, the environment/driving just feels so uninspiring in Horizon. I play for a bit, start to get enthused, and then realize I'm caged in just as much as in FM4 and I get bummed out. It may be more fun if every car didn't feel like it was stuck to the road with 2,000 pounds of downforce, but really, the game just needs to remove the physical and invisible fences and it'd be loads more interesting.

I am not sure what the deal is, but I DL'd the demo and started it and after the stupid intro and the loading screen came up, I got a disc read error, which is weird because I dont have the disc. Deleted the demo and then reDL'd it and got to play for all of 2 mins before it gave me the same error. Cannot find anything about it online.

I'm pretty sure the demo is fenced in, the real game won't/shouldn't be. All of the game videos show fences being crashed through. I get the feeling like they fentsed us in for the demo to focus on the driving, for now.
