If you think those are bad, get a set of goodyear eagles lmao. Those things are a joke, I actually really like the Dunlops, coming from the Eagles. Here's a link to a thread I had about tires, there should be some useful information there.

The time has come for me to begin searching for tires. I know by the time Winter comes back around, my tread will not be sufficient. I have been searching for a couple of days and haven't seen any threads dedicated to reviewing or recommending tires, so I figured maybe we should start one.
I'm sure maybe there is one in another forum but they discuss all kinds of cars. In my experiences the exact same tire can behave totally different on a different car. For instance, someone who has a great experience with a tire on a Honda Civic will probably have a completely different experience than someone who has that same tire on an Audi A6 Avant. So I would like to see a tire thread that is dedicated to the way different tires behave, perform and last on our B6s.
Using the review system on TireRack as a guideline, I think the important information necessary to help others find the tire that's best for their B6 is as follows (and please feel free to add anything I might leave out) :
I'm using my info as an example
TIRE BRAND: Dunlop
TIRE TYPE: SP Sport Signature
TIRE SIZE: 235/45/17
LOAD RATING / SPEED RATING: 95W
WHEEL SIZE (for width): 17x7.5
MILES DRIVEN: 12,000 miles (Total Unknown)
BODY TYPE: B6 Wagon
ENGINE: 3.6
DRIVETRAIN: 4Motion
SUSPENSION: Stock
DRIVING STYLE: Enthusiastic
LOCATION: New York City
LOCAL ROAD CONDITIONS: HORRIBLE
REVIEW: These tires were on the car when I purchased it 12,000 miles ago, so I cannot be 100% sure how much of the road noise and harsh ride can be attributed to the car, but based on many other's descriptions of the ride of their cars I would tend to think most of the fault lies with the tires. They are listed as a Sport tire but I feel nothing sporty about them. There is not much grip to these tires so I do not feel much confidence as I approach a corner that I can take it "enthusiastically". It feels like the car can handle it but the tires can't.
COST (Per Tire or Per Set):
WOULD YOU RECOMMEND?: No
RATING (1-10): 5.5
PICTURES (if available):
So that's more or less how I think it could work. If enough people contribute their information and experiences, it would make it alot easier for others to choose a tire based on how it will perform on THEIR B6. As opposed to having to trust the input of someone who drives a completely different type of car. So with that said... What Tires Do YOU Recommend?

Let me share my experience.
I've owned 3 B6's. one 2.0t fwd sedan, one 3.6 4motion wagon non-sport, and one 3.6 4motion wagon sport pkg.
I've had 16, 17 and 18" tires on these.
Michelin MXM4 215/55-16, 235/45-17, soft quiet ride for first 10k miles, then gets noisy. poor traction in dry or wet., got rid of them after 10k miles even though they had a ton of tread life left.
Kumho ECSTA LX Platnium 215/55-16. Soft very quiet ride. Put 18k on them, then sold the wheels. Better wet and dry traction then Michelin MXM4's. Had about 75% tread left when I sold it.
Pirelli P6 four season 235/45-17, 235/40-18. Soft but loud. Decent dry and wet traction. but was too noisy, got rid of them after 10k miles. they had about 50% tread left when I got rid of them
Continental Contiprocontact 235/45-17. Soft and very quiet ride. ok Dry and wet traction if you aren't an aggressive driver. got about 7k miles on this set of tires right now and they still look new. so I expect long tread life out of this set. used on my wife's daily driver.
Goodyear Eagle GT, 235/40-18 Rides rough, not too bad noise wise, handles great on dry and wet. Gives good feedback and confidence in corners. I've got about 19k miles on them now, they still have about 30 to 40% tread left.
I'm an aggressive driver. my next set of tires will likely be Kumho ECSTA 4X in 235/40-18 size

REVIEW: I've had the tires on the car for about 3 months. They are quiet for such an agressive looking thread. They are very stable at highway speeds. They handled the little snow we had in Chicago this season very well. Traction has been improved dramatically over the stock tires that were on the car. You do compromise a little on cornering stability, but they have been the best high performance all-season tires I've ever owned.

3 months in. I don't like these... I wanted to love the Conti's and I got a good deal on them, but they have a constant vibration/rumble to them for me. I've had them checked out, rotated, rebalanced, etc. It's about like driving on the freeway rumble strip, but turned all the way down. There's just a constant vibration in the pedal and a soft noise similar to those strips (drunk bumps?)
performance wise they are great. Cornering feel is solid, they never spin, even on enthusiastic launches. The noise and (minor) vibration are pretty obvious though. It may be the road surface here, but I'm not moving just for my tires sake. I should have gone with a more all-season tire instead of this max performance one.

These got very loud after about 20k, got rid of them at about 30k with a bit of tread left. Quieter and softer than the current Conti's at first but with substantial flex. I got them because they were cheap for a reputable brand, but not cheapest. Falken is made by Dunlop, FYI.

I did research on tires for over two months after finally deciding on something, i have to say that my decision was influenced on a 50% price 25% warranty and 25% user reviews.
my car was a lease so i was going for some half life tires to return it to the dealer but then we saw the new model of passat and we decide to keep this baby
i have 37000 miles on a 2008 B6 basic edition, tires were changed 1000 miles ago.
the car came with continental contipro contact
215/55/16 97H they where ok and i never noticed the noise until i had a flat at 35,500 miles and i had to use the spare for the first time and then i did noticed the noise just coming from that single tire
on my opinion this tires weren't BAD but they weren't the greatest they had a very short life spam
on my opinion but i can't really complaint, very reliable on any weather condition but deep snow.
now i went for this ones

REVIEW:I noticed that no one in this post have mentioned the tire load index, witch was my main concern when getting this tires but math don't lie and the 93 rating is good enough for me even when the manufacturer recommends 97, right now the car rides extra smooth and very soft and quiet, it handles very well on "sport mode" with nice traction on dry and wet roads even the bumps and pot holes aren't that bad now, but also they are too soft for the car and this may very well be for the load rate index.
They have a 70.000 miles warranty
Now they have a very nice off road look coming along perfect for my theme of the jeep of modern warfare.
I get them on a buy 3 get one free $125.00 a piece $375.00 for all 4 tires plus taxes installation, balance and car alignment about $560.00 total

RATING (1-10): 8-9 (lets see how well perform in the future)

Anybody with a 4Motion Wagon sporting Continental DWS on 18" wheels care to chime in? I've heard there's an issue with compatibility due to the load rating.
#13
I believe the DWS in a 235/40-18 size is only 91 SL instead of the 95 XL recommended.
I avoided these when I got my goodyear eagle gt's because of the load rating.
I routinely carry heavy loads in my wagon, so I wanted to make sure the tires would handle the load (construction materials)
The difference from a 91 to 95 is about 165lb/tire.
For safety, you should really get tires with a load rating taht at minimum meets the factory recommendation.

Tires are a great value. Good handeling in Dry and some wet. Started to get noise from them at 20K.
Should rotate every 5k and should last a little longer than the 30K I got. I rotated every 10K per OM
I just replaced them today with Nitto Motivo, I will let you know how they last.

Worked in tires for quite a few years as a teenager, eventually became a mechanic for the same company that paid for all my ASE certifications. I will say that Michelins although expensive are probably the best quality tire that you can get.
Whether it is summer/winter/all season tires that you are looking, spend the extra money and get the Michelins. Increased mileage. low road noise and good handling/mileage out of the tire.
May sound like a rep, I'm not. They are worth the money. Have regretted not buying Michelins everytime that someone gave me a deal on something supposedly as good.
My last company I worked for pushed Toyo tires like they were Michelins for close to the same price, they are not. Put them on my B5.5, hated every minute of them on wet surfaces and snow.
Bought Primacy MXV4's as my next tire. Never regretted it.
#16
Looks like I will get the Michelin Primacy MXM4 235/45/17 tires some time within the next few months.
I currently have the Goodyear Eagle LS2 (yeah, the ones you probably heard horror stories of). I used them now for 5K miles. They were take-offs (from an Eos I believe). I went through three balancing sessions, still there is vibration in the car for a wide range of speeds.
Might be some manufacturing defect, not 100% sure though. Anyway, tired of these LS2's and hence, I will give Michelin a shot next time. The Primacy MXM4 really got good reviews. Will report back once I get them.

Thanks for this info! It's exactly what I wanted to know. I had my heart set on the DWS but I guess I'll have to look into something else. I'll definitely be re-reading this thread and researching the tires listed to figure out what will work best for my budget and preferences.![]()

I'm running 225/45/17 sized DWS on my 2.0T wagon. Had them for 6 months and love them. Quiet, comfortable ride, excellent grip and traction in rain and light snow (flash dump one night right after I installed them in April or March).
Got mine from Discount Tire Direct. Better price than TR.

Got Kumho ECSTA 4X installed on my wagon almost 2 months ago. 235/40/18 95XL.
They replaced the good year eagle GT's.
About 2k miles on them now, they are quiet and softer riding then the good year, but doesn't grip as well on dry road. (i.e. with the good year, I could not get the front tires to spin from a dead stop even if I floor it, with the kumho, they spin for a fraction of a second before the 4motion kicks in)
haven't had rain so don't know how they handle in wet. But they are definitely more comfortable than the good year.

Bought these through tirerack, got an excellent deal on them. I had the factory stock tires on here previously, these are excellent in all areas so far, road noise is non-existent, they're great in the rain, and sticky on dry pavement. I have dedicated track tires so I don't know how they perform on there though. I'm considering buying a second complete set for when I wear these out in 4 years or so.
I'm looking forward to trying these out in snow as well, provided we get snow in the northeast this year anyhow.

Another vote for the Continental DWS...
I have had them for front tires on my '06 for about a year..only reason I haven't replaced the stock rears is because they still have tread left at 73K!(they are Michelin Primacys which are a nice tire but only under dry or wet conditions..tread life is awesome, but they're terrible in snow)
As winter approaches, I'll be replacing the remaining two to the Conti DWSs.
