I've seen stations at interection corners do that. I assume to cut down on traffic that attempts to cut into the station to avoid the intersection itself.

Heck the Wal Mart nearby put speed humps all the way at the back of the parking lot because people would speed around back to avoid the clogged traffic near the parcade store fronts.

It actually makes sense

The costco I fill up at has its gas station on a rather large plot, and the speed people get up to after pulling in is nuts.

They pull in, speed up, and slam on the brakes. I dont know how one hasnt hit a pump yet or the one gas station attendant because he is always walking out from between the pumps rite as im pulling in

And what makes it even better for these speeders is that its a one way kind of deal.

Hate. I feel like sometimes people put in speed bumps just to put them in. American's especially have a natural drive to want to control other people. Same reason you can't ride your skateboard hardly anywhere, drink on the beach, ride your mountain bike in the mountains, paint your house the color you want, etc.

There used to be one round about way to get out of the parking lot at work many moons ago that avoided all speed bumps. When I had my dumped MK3, I swear I musta been the only person that exited the parking lot via this route. Then a few years ago the landlord put in a speed bump outa' no where.

I had to jump in a lady's CRV today because she left it running while trying to put gas in. Still in drive, it started rolling away. I pulled a Keith Stone, ran over, popped open the door, and jammed the brakes on before it rolled out into the street.

Maybe these are a deterrent?

Funny part is that when it was rolling away, she was more concerned with trying to stab the nozzle into the moving filer neck instead of wondering why it was moving in the first place.

This is a Food City Gas Station (Yah fuel bucks. 15 cents a gallon discount plus premium same price as midgrade fridays = ).
They are near the main lot entrance/exit, but never in a way that would make them a short cut.

My take... since this is litigious and take no personal responsibility America.. that this was a reaction to "customers" complaining about somebody driving through at a higher than safe speed.
Instead of telling the idiots doing that to leave the store (refuse service), they put down speed bumps which affects everybody and not just the few idiots causing the problem.
Typical.
I used to work for a company that would have entire company meetings and company rule changes because they were too chicken **** to just pull the one employee aside and correct the issue. And that type of self centered person doesn't think "everybody follow this new rule" rules affect them anyway.

i purposely leave my door open and stand in the middle of the pumps to prevent people from cutting through

i also hate people who cut through the parking lot, zipping across to get somewhere faster
do you realize how many times i have had to block someone from crossing my right of way as i am entering/leaving a parkinglot

Well... the gas station in my OP is quite steep...
But if that was the reason, then why just put them in the middle pump area and not for the outside pumps.

And to add insult to injury- because I always spew insults when I see a freshly injured person- the gas nozzle shut offs did not work even though the nozzles still had the little tabs that let you set pump hands free. I spewed at least 50 cents worth of gas.
