Thread: 1.6 td tach signal voltage

    My tach is all haywire after new alt install. The signal reads way high at start up, then reads absolutely nothing after rev/batt light shuts off. With the signal wire disconnected I get a reading of 6ish volts at the alternator. Trying to get this bastard to read again. Anyone else encounter something like this? And what should the voltage be/should the voltage change with rev? Lmk of any additional info. Thanks

    You either have a bad alternator, or a wrong alternator. It does have the letter 'W' next to where the wire plugs into the back of the alternator, right? If so, take it back and exchange for a good one. If no 'W' terminal, go get the correct alternator for it.

    Will do. If that's the case, this will be my 3rd defective one in less than a year. Advance Auto refabs rule

    I read somewhere that like 20% of rebuilt starters and alternators were defective.......

    Ordered new alt. still under warranty so that's, rad. I hope this one falls in the 80% success category
