I am selling my OBD2 (later half 96) Volkswagen Jetta GLX VR6 in Windsor Blue (VW LG5R, it is a respray but I believe it was the original color) color. Has about 140K miles, regular clean title, un-molested VR6, slightest bit of rust under the battery tray like normal (but no where else at all!), averaging 29mpg currently, super clean car that would be a great base for a show Mk3 or a nice Mk3 DD.
I do have a Carfax for the car that I will share, shows everything flawless.
Good:
Bottom of the car is immaculate. No rust or other issues.
1 Year old tires with plenty of tread left.
Rokkor (same as Raceland) lowering coils so you can slam it to the ground
Great feeling clutch and shifter, 4 way disk brakes feel like new
Passed emissions like a boss. No CEL, I have an OBDII scanner so you can even scan the car.
Blaupunkt head unit with Sony speakers in the rear for Grateful Dead or whatever you dig.
Just about all of the coolant hoses have been replaced in the bay (the remaining ones look and feel great, no wear whatsoever) along with the 'crack pipe', both the auxiliary and main water pump, serpentine belt, thermostat housing and thermostat. So you won't have any issues with the cooling system because I was blessed with all of them already. And yes I put in the orange Dex Cool which is okay for this engine. No green or cheap coolant has been used.
I have most of the receipts for the parts bought to repair the vehicle as well.
Sunroof works tilting and sliding back all the way, motor still sounds and feels good for that, you may just have to use white silicone grease on the sliders once or twice a year and it will keep working no problem. No leaks either!
For non Mk3 people, the rear seats split 60/40 and lay down flat to make a surprisingly large hauling zone.
Cone filter so when you step on the gas VR6 music fills your ears. Its fun, and I also have the stock airbox and a good air filter that swaps back in in literally a minute.
The grey area:
I haven't replaced the timing chains in the last 2 years of ownership and I am not sure if any of the other previous 4 owners have either. But the 12V idles extremely smooth, no irregular sounds or Volkswagen shenanigans.
Odometer is wrong because the cluster was switched out at some point in it's life. But the title is normal and the DMV has kept everything straight with that.
The car comes with 4 of these Mk4 16inch 5X100 wheels that are painted white (http://www.caranddriving.com/images/...e/vwbeetle.jpg). I wan't them out of my property at this point. I'm not going to be using them.
The power steering does not currently work in this car but the pump is a bulletproof VW part (except for where my hose broke), I got a quote from a VW show for a used one for $40. I just never got all the way to North Phoenix to pick it up so its not a big deal. That and I like the steering response of no power steering. Point is, its not a problem. Drives just fine.
Typical Mk3 Wear:
Passenger side regulator just went, I have fixed it multiple times, the motor is good and you can hear it for yourself. Both rear regulators work but the buttons have been disconnected but you can just plug them in.
The previous owner had someone clip the trunk so the gap is slightly larger on one side, but it opens, closes, works just fine. That is why the tail lights are cracked on one side and have the lower trim (amber) Jetta tails on the other side. (picture in Flickr link).
AC fan blows just fine, but the refrigerant needs to be recharged. So no AC as of now.
Heater core is bypassed (connector pipes in engine bay are corroded), got it like this.
Bit of curb rash on the Bugatti wheels on the left side.
Slight bit of paint fading on the trunk wing and the roof. Looks great from 10 feet away, doesn't look terrible up close.
All seats are the factory GLX leather, the rears are cracking a bit. The front passenger seat is ripped but the back part is perfect. And the driver's seat bottom is perfect and the back is sort of rough but not ripping. Typical wear, especially in AZ.
I am selling my VR because it's time to move onto other vehicles. I don't need to sell it fast so low ballers go ball elsewhere please. I am open to offers, but cash ones only. Being frank with you, its not exactly easy to find a Mk3 this nice for a base car to build up or DD, so shoot me an email with an offer and come check the car out. I'm available to show it after 6:30pm Mon-Thurs. After 4pm Saturday, and all Sunday. My name is Craig and my cell number is (480) Seven-2-0-two-2-1-five. If I don't pick up, I can't talk. But please leave me a message. If you don't leave a message I will assume your phone call was telemarket spam. No texts please, phone screen is broken and I will have no idea what your text reads for the most part and I will just end up calling you anyways. Also, I can be called until late into the night so don't think its too late ill happily pick up and even show off the car at night if thats what works best. Thanks for looking. Peace!
