Thread: Air intake tube wont stay on!!!

  1. 05-18-2012 09:25 PM #1
    Ok so I have 2008 jetta 2.5

So I wanted to check the air filter

I pulled off the engine cover, unhooked maf sensor and hose clamp on the air tube checked the filter...... etc

So I put it all back on,now it seems that the top of the air tube and hose clamp the connects to the engine cover will not go on all the way

I have tried everything to push the air tube up more it just keeps sliding back down once i tighten the hose clamp

So does the tube need to flush against the engine cover or can it stay halfway on the maf tube it?

Any help is greatly appreciated,I just dont want to have my engine messed up by getting dirt in the tube or something
Heres a pic of the part I am talking about

That's my least favorite hose and clamp as well.

It needs to be tight to the MAF housing so the clamp can sit in it's little groove. I have to really force that one on every single time.
If it sounds like sarcasm, it probably is.

do yourself a favor, take off that shi**y clamp, buy a clamp from walmart, home depot, lowes, whatevers close to u...the clamps that u can use a 10mm or a phillips head on...then get some vaseline, lube the tube ( lol no pun intended ) and do it that way...it wont come back off

it definitely shouldn't just slide off. there's a lip that it will need to slide over (i think), and once the clamp goes over the lip it won't slide off. if this isn't the case, then you should check the positioning of the clamp on the plastic hose, it may not be in the correct place thus causing it to slide off. this thing fits onto the MAF very tightly. once it is correctly clamped on there test it and you should't be able to pull it off with your hand at all. i also hate this clamp, what a pain in the neck.

The tube isn't pushed on to the "click" point. When it is then the clamp will work right. Next time pay someone to work on your car, please.
