A 4P connector sounds like a modular jack, also known as a registered jack when standardized by the FCC (ie RJ11 for phones is 4P4C, RJ45 for ethernet is 8P8C). The naming is for possible positions and actual connectors. Its just a way to describe the connector, not actually naming the connector. I would research further on the scanner, but if I was a betting man, I'd say you've got a 4pin 1394 connector there, which is a 4P4C connector often used for imaging devices, scanners and cameras, etc.
