I just got a scanner off Craigslist and it uses a USB connection for charging / data. I saw the pic of it online (ad showed the device with the plug connector exposed) and thought nothing of it, "oh cool, it looks like mini USB, I've got a million of those cables", so I didn't even bother to look further at the plug when I got the device (since it didn't include one).

Well when I got home I looked at it and found what is not a usb mini, nor micro, I never knew the name until I looked it up, and I think its called a 4p.... Yea, you never heard of that before either

Ok, well sorry, maybe you have, but for the uninitiated, here is a pic:

I did have something before, a bluetooth headset called a bluespoon, which used one of these type plugs. I thought at the time it was a proprietary connection, but now I see its not. Its just not used as much, not that I can tell...

Now, where to find these in a brick&mortar.... Micro center, thats my only guess.

A 4P connector sounds like a modular jack, also known as a registered jack when standardized by the FCC (ie RJ11 for phones is 4P4C, RJ45 for ethernet is 8P8C). The naming is for possible positions and actual connectors. Its just a way to describe the connector, not actually naming the connector. I would research further on the scanner, but if I was a betting man, I'd say you've got a 4pin 1394 connector there, which is a 4P4C connector often used for imaging devices, scanners and cameras, etc.

Nope, its def a USB, thats already been established (it plugs into the USB port on the computer and the chipset is usb based interface only). I would show you a pic but its late and I need to get up for a wedding tomorrow...

Oddly enough the dollar store near my house has a shelf full of cords with this end for sale.
I always plug in USBs right the first time.

What brand Bluetooth headset is it? Like I mentioned before, I had the same thing. Unfortunately that headset ended up getting packaged with a phone I was selling and, well... thats gone.

I got a Keychain digicam laying around the house that uses that USB input for transfer images or use it as webcam.

I think you guys need some: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LASIK

LASIK or Lasik (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis), commonly referred to simply as laser eye surgery, is a type of refractive surgery for correcting myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. LASIK is performed by ophthalmologists using a laser. This surgery reshapes corneas to sharpen vision.

Please look at it again and READ the entire thread. This is NOT a mini firewire port. Ive seen those before firsthand and this is NOT IT. It is USB, but a pretty rare USB type, one not commonly used. Its probably not even used at all anymore since micro USB came out (this plug predates the micro type).

When you have a rare cable- go with a big USB travel kit.
    This one is cheap.

Oh... I thought you were looking for a cable?

I found the Wal Mart site good for cheap cables.

    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sima-USB-F...eWire/11038655

But yeah- that is a very rare plug.
In the past I thought every manufacturer was making proprietary usb plugs just to sell the accessories.
