Hey someone please help! I have been reading forum after forum and am no clearer on an answer. I have a 2012 North American Passat with the RNS 315 Nav system preloaded with maps from the states. I live in Germany and would like to have European maps installed. I can buy maps advertised for the RNS 315 western Europe on the Volkswagen Zubehor (accessories) website, but will they work? Is there a difference between the systems if they are the same model? I don't want to pay $200 for the SD card to find out it doesn't work. The dealers here are no help at all. Does any one have a definitive answer on this?

Hey, I'm in Mannheim and feel your pain. I have the RNS 510 with the USA maps but like you I was not getting any answers from anywhere. No, I have not found out a solution BUT I did try my German friend DVD from his German Passat and it "seem" like it worked.(We were at a BBQ so not much time for cars only Bier) I say "seems" because I only tried it in the driveway. Anyway, it accepted the DVD and said if I wanted to load it or use it from the DVD. I selected the DVD option and I was able to input an address and maps came up. So in theory it should work but since I did not have time to really test it out I'm not sure if it works 100%. I saw maps on German Ebay for about 90 euros, we'll see. Let's keep ourselves inform it we know anything.. Those guys at AutoExchange should have given us the answer but there are a bunch of Good luck..

I have sent an email to the manufacturer of the RNS 315 (technisat). If I get a response I'll let you know.

I just have a question regarding NA cars in Germany, did you just get to Germany, and have your car imported from the states, or did you actually buy a NA car while you were already in Germany?

Next, and probably obvious, question, why would you buy an originally German car at NA spec which would have been assembled in Mexico, when you are where they are actually born, and the options offered there are far greater???

Just FYI, PASSAT North American version is assembled in US. And I believe they are in military, so they can order NA version.

Bingo !! I work for the US Army here in Germany and YES we can order and buy any US Version car and have it delivered here. I order mine from the Military Auto Exchange which gets them from Tennessee (not Mexico). To your other question, why would I buy a Euro version new car if I will only be here temporary? When my time is up here I just have this car shipped back to the states no questions asked, you cannot do that with a Euro Passat. And by the way, my TDI SEL would cost over $45.000 dollars in Euro money. Their base price Passat starts at my TDI SEL end price, this is without any extras. See VW.de .

Wow, that is horrible pricing, i made the assumption that a german car in Germany would be cheaper... Well I see your point, but damn, no bi-zenon's or led tails, oh, and not to mention the 1.8t version, but I see your stand point, so... Understood

Germans pay 19% VAT (sale tax) all cars they buy, and on top of that they pay close to $8.00 a gallon of gas which is tax at around 50% of the basic price. No wonder there are so many diesels and small cars in Europe.. I feel for them....

I have a 2012 Jetta and am about to purchase the SD card with EU maps. Have you had any luck?
