I just bought my brother a couple Eames desk lamps (he's an architect, with architect tastes) from Herman Miller. Most beautiful desk lamps I have seen in years, and as with any Miller product, incredibly functional.![]()

My new job has lovely energy saving lighting, it's pretty much a cave because I'm not near a window. I'm looking for 2 architect style lamps to cover a work area about 5'x2'. I don't necessarily mind spending $100 /lamp, but I would really like to put my hands on one first to try it out, which I'm noticing is quite difficult to find them locally.
Anyone have any suggestions?

My wife and I both have these on our desks used totally differently. They are incredibly flexible. Great for intense close work.

I have had two silver-painted Ikea 20w halogen task lamps on my desk for a few years. I think they cost $40 each, I can't remember. The arms don't stay put and adjustment is needed here and there, but they look nice and do the job. One just died though - probably the transformer. I might try wiring in another one. I had an Artemide Tolomeo on my desk at work a few years ago... that was amazing but not an energy saver.
If I had the money to put towards it I would spend the money and go LED for sure.
