So my buddy Dave and I decided to take a little road trip to Helen, GA to check out the Sowo show and let Tater stretch his legs. What a great day for a show.
On the way up we followed this bad boy for the last 20 miles or so (Dave is a P-car fanatic):
Absolutely beautiful factory 914-6 with a 3.2L Carrera engine. The pic doesn't do it justice. Funniest part was we both parked in the same field, but about 100 yards apart. As soon as we get out to stretch we see an older gentlemen jogging up to us. He was like "hey I haven't seen a MK1 Scirocco in ages" and we asked "hey is that your 914?" - of course it was.
His name was Frank and was a very cool dude. He loved my little ugly duckling and we drooled over his Porsche. Dave just got rid of his Tii project and is on the prowl for a 914 and Frank was a wealth of knowledge - even gave Dave his card and told him to call with any questions. Classy dude.
Then we noticed a cool MK1 drive up with a Zender body kit - it was our own galil762 (Joe). Very cool dude and his car is very nice (interior is beautiful):
Then off to the show to check out cars.
Nice gold MK1 with 16V
Awesome MK1 Jetta Coupe with 16V and awesome brown interior
Alpine White Rabbit GTI
Hey SciroccoJoe look another Cedar Green Scirocco
It probably understeers just a bit
And on the way home we followed this little guy for a while
We dubbed it the Sharkrocco as it had some nice gills painted over the spray bombed white paint, plus these crazy static wheel covers over the wheels that look kinda like a cross between ninja throwing stars and those salad shooter MK4 GTI wheels. He had put some kind of bolt in the centers of the covers so it looked like the wheels weren't spinning
We pulled up to him at a light and it was some old dude from Charlotte...a bit strange but what the hell, right? He said he dreamed up the wheel idea in the shower...
Filled up Tater for the ride home. He purred like a kitten the whole way(well kinda like a windy and buzzy old WWII airplane at least).
Next weekend Vintage at the Vineyards in Old Salem to drool over old 2002s and other cool BMWs.

OK, Frank's 'teener is *seriously* nice. I'm wondering if I know him from 914world.com. God willing my 'teener will look like that when I'm done with it. And if I could have a MkI like that second pic, so much the better!

Great photos Pete. That is the 2nd 914-6 I have ever seen. The other is owned by a former co-worker of mine. He built a small garage just to fit his 914-6. I'd love to get my mits on it.
I expect photos from that Vintage/Vineyard gtg!!!
......please.

I chatted with a guy at SoWo that had the black 16v w/carbon fibre roof wrap and matte black vinyl graphic down the side of his car. Told him about vwvortex and cincy.
When I attended bug-a-poluza I chatted with a few that didn't know and one that hasn't done cincy for years. I hope they show up. Their rocco's looked very good.![]()

Hey Pete! It was great talking to you this year, glad you were able to stay longer this time!! Thanks for the compliments! The VR'd Rocco was put together by the owner, he just bought the EuroWise kit! Did you notice that he had the stock front 9.4 and drum rear brakes!! I would hate to try and stop that car quickly..

What Joe is referring to is last year I literally got to Sowo, drove down the main drag and headed back home. Our caravan took woefully long to get there (why we went solo this year) and it was the first real trip in the Tater. 45amp alternator (i.e. flashlight strength headlights), no fifth gear and creeping oil temperatures driving at night alone somewhere in GA, SC and NC...it was a fun drive home!
Now I am man enough to take on Cincy driving solo in the rain at night (well I hope it isn't raining and I don't plan on driving at night).![]()
