Ok, so I have been busy redoing the setup for the Lugtronic install and a new turbo among other things. Got the car back together and started logging idle warm up. It was kind of rough, but thought it might need the tune adjusted. Kevin Black noted that my engine was not pulling enough vacuum, so I started looking into it. Noticed the car had a miss at idle and part throttle. Swapped plugs, wires and the injectors and discovered it was cylinder number five and one giving me trouble.

Did a compression test and sadly it is not good. It was done on a cold motor.
    CYL#1- 142 with oil in cylinder- 155
    CYL#2- 190
    CYL#3- 180
    CYL#4- 183
    CYL#5- 155 with oil in cylinder- 155
    CYL#6- 192

So I am pretty sure the head gasket is leaking or I have a bad valve on #5. What about #1? Do you guys think it is the rings or the valve that is the real culprit? No one local seems to know what a leak down test is.
This was a random head I had that looked in good shape so I swapped it because the other one had deep corrosion pits, was worried about it sealing right.
No milkshake in the oil and it is not blowing coolant out the bottle.
I guess what I am really asking is do you guys think the bottom end is ok?

    TIA, Dan

pick up a HC test. Its just a test liquid that you mix with your coolant. If there is HC present, it will show as a colour reaction, and you'll know the Head gasket is leaking. cheap and easy.

Thanks, I will look into that. I just hope the bottom end is okay, I don't have an engine lift right now, lol. I found a shop that can do a leak down test, would it be worth it before I tear it apart?

Going to pull the head this weekend, anyone have advice? Personal experiences with bad valves? I think it is a valve, because the cylinders that are low are not next to each other. No evidence of coolant or oil loss/mixing. Wet test really did not change anything.

If you are having similar issues with your turbo motor, you should see this. This damaged caused my problems.
