Having lived in Manhattan before, I know what a chore parking can be. Also knowing that any luxury condo i that particular neighborhood will be well north of a million (probably well north of several million) I wasn't too surprised.... then I read this:

Just did a Google Street View and its located next door to an Avis rental place. Doesn't seem like a very ritzy, $1.0M parking spot neighborhood.

Does not necessarily have to be worth $1mill to be worth it. Think of it this way, you pay an extra mill to get the perfect parking spot with your luxo-apt. Its not about whats in the garage, its the convenience of the space. Time is money in NYC, and convenience is worth alot of $$$, in this case it is a parking space.

Have you ever driven around DT looking for a parking spot? Sometimes you get lucky, more often than not, you don't. Clearly this individual has the luxury to guarantee him/herself a spot. Must be nice.

No wonder they have to charge so much. Not really a money making type of building is it. Why not build a 30 story luxury condo and slightly lower the price per suite... build further down, have many more $500k parking spots etc.

im going to have to guess it has something to do with zoning laws

NYC can charge a premium for public space on a street, yet i can't sell my spot in queens ?

i hope someone buys a beater car, and just parks it over there forever

or some bum makes it his spot

or NYC'ers wll use it as an official dog relief area

My co-worker pays $400 per month with valet for a spot inside an underground garage on 9th street. I only pay $65 for a spot across the street in a small gated lot.

Every time I'm in Manhattan, I'm always amazed by the high dollar cars you see schlepping between the fleet of yellowcabs. Best one I remember was a woman driving a Bentley Continental GT with two filled baby carseats in the back. Of course she could have afforded to be driven around, but it made her even more 1% to be driving her OWN Bentley around with the kids.

Kinda like the high end vehicles you see schlepping between the pedicabs downtown Austin?
