Thread: 2007 jetta totaled?

  1. 05-21-2012 01:45 PM #1
So I got into an accident a couple of days ago and I'm waiting on my insurance to give me an estimate of how much it would cost to get it fixed. It's a 2007 Volkswagen jetta with about 99500 miles on it. The air bags did not deploy, the engine still runs, and it can be driven. What do y'all think? Totaled or fixable?

I'm hoping not. My mechanic thinks about 4000 in damage but not sure. It wasn't looked at thoroughly yet

Mine looked sort of like that but my hood was untouched but fenders and lights gone. It was just a hair under 3600. That's no where near total.

Were there random baseball size dents on the hood before the accident? That's weird.

So you live somewhere in the south?

Sorry to hear about the accident, I believe this argument against Donks has come up in the past.

My vote is for not totaled, especially if it is drivable and no airbags deployed.

Yep, Louisiana actually. The car was ridiculously raised, the guy stoped short, and had no drivers license either

Find a totalled Rabbit without front-end damage, swap for a chrome-free bumper and grille.

Repairing slightly less extensive damage on my Jetta from a deer collision costs about $4500, so figure on at least $6k.

Looks like they'll fix it, but we can't tell if there's any damage under the hood or to the frame.

That's all cosmetic... doubt the sub-frames are even damaged.

If that is a write off, I know why everyone's insurance rates keep climbing

$4000 might be about right... could be a bit more tho, newer cars are a PITA to fix after repairs due to exorbitant parts costs and how many little plastic things end up breaking. I had similar damage (fender, hood, headlight) after rear ending a Santa-Fe (wasn't following too closely... just bad traffic and needed to make a lane change. OPP ruled no-fault to either party due to over the shoulder check confirmed by the 'victim''s statement). I suppose in the wisdom of TCL it was 11ty billion percent my fault because I don't have 8 eyes looking at all possible directions, but I still say it was a legitimate accident and so did the OPP. My bill was about $2800... nothing much under the skin was damaged... and I didn't need a new front fascia (just a bit of filler and paint). Biggest cost was the new headlamp for $750. Rest was all labour... I needed a few clips and whatnot.

The insurance may total it ( I doubt it) but either way it's fixable. Somebody will be putting many more miles on it.

I hit a curb last August in my car, the damage was not near that, and the bill was 4700.

Granted I needed my suspension redone on the drivers side, but most the bill was cosmetic damage.

In a '97 Jetta Trek? And it wasn't totaled at $4700 in damage?

So is this the guy who "stopped short"?

  33. 05-21-2012 04:16 PM #33
it doesn't seem too bad, mostly cosmetic from the pics shown

not worth it to total it out and get a negative mark on the carfax down the line
