I purchased this n/a non-turbo Jetta in October of last year with a list of issues that I began to address. Since then the motor was pulled. The rings,crank bearings,head gasket,oil pan gasket,valve seals,intake gasket, and exhaust gaskets have all been replaced (as far as motor work goes).
The windshield was replaced because of an obnoxious spider crack. As well as a new window lift/regulator in the drivers front door.
I will disclose that the instrument cluster has "its days"...it tends to randomly loose power. The speed-o and the clock continue to work dispite this issue. I installed aftermarket temp/voltage gauges to remedy this issue until I got around to it.
I have noticed that in the past the car HAS BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. It was hit in the front pas. side. I dont want that to come as a surprise to any1 (I didnt notice this when I got it & it sucked).
Aside from the cluster issues the only other issue I noticed over the last 5 months I dailied it to work (about the last 6k miles@ 45mpg) is that for some reason i'm getting oil into the antifreeze reservoir. I am at a loss as to why it is moving from oil into antifreeze and NOT moving from antifreeze to oil....but after draining oil there is no trace of coolant in the oil?
That being said this is a good project for someone to continue. Im just ready for a new car
