Thread: Clearing codes on 1999 Audi A6

  1. 05-21-2012 09:52 PM #1
I had my P0422 code cleared by a friend. Since I have to emission this thing I ran it by Auto Zone to have them take a reading to make sure its clear. Their scanner came back with the code I had before....I'm guessing that stored code would=a failed emissions in AZ?

I'm getting P0422 which is bank 1 cat....any advice on this would be helpful...I need to get it fixed but I really need to get through emissions in the next week or so.

    Help?

Really common on that era 2.8.. I would make sure all the plumbing for your secondary air (vacuum and fresh air supply) is functional and intact and then sea foam the crap out of it. If that doesnt work add a couple BFI/42DD o2 sensor spacers to the post cat o2's ..

Also make sure you arent over filled on oil

Oil is good, this I know.

Would it be your opinion that the cat is NOT faulty?

It could be bad, typically for a cat to fail they need outside influence.. excessive oil through breather system from bad PCV or overfill. Too rich/lean something like that. WHat I do know is that replacement is costly and most of the aftermarkets you find cheap on ebay will leave you with the same code.. even if it is bad I'd still make an attempt to pass with BFI spacer for $30
